cuda66273 runs a Demon, and I think Al Loetl does too. I think they are both at Woodburn today.

I went from an Eddlebrock to an 850 Speed Demon on my 440 w/ M1 single plane. The Demon does seem to be a little taller. I wish I could have put them side by side but sold the Eddie before I got the Demon. I think, peformance wise, you will like the Speed Demon. I used the Mech. Sec. double pumper. I have since gone to a Dominator because my cam was a bit much for the Speed Demon. Otherwise, it worked great!

I would also like any feedback on Speed Demons. I want to replace my stock carb with a new 750. I am waffling between an Edelbrock/Carter and a Speed Demon 750 with Vaccum Secondaries.

Thanks,
Jason

Unhappy

I sent Demon carbs a note and they actually recomended the new Migty Demon 825 shown here: http://www.gpt300.com/demoncarbs/
It's $499 at summit as opposed to $439 for the 850.
I'm confused. not sure about the difference. http://www.gpt300.com/demoncarbs/speed_.htm

On the Edelbrock/carter afb vs. Demon hight, I just measured them and they are both 3 1/4" tall from base to air cleaner mounting flange. The drop base air cleaners available for the demon/ holley's make an easier fit too. I replaced the Edelbrock/carter afb 750 on my 440 powered truck with the Barry Grant Sports Claw 850 double pumper. I believe this is the same basic carb as the Demon Speed Demon 850 double pumper. I lost a bit of gas milage, but the truck is a hell of alot funner to drive, race and tow! I also have the 850dp Speed Demon on my Dart. I am totally satisfied with both carbs. The big 'ol sight glassess for viewing the fuel level are sweet. The Barry Grant/ Demon also had a noticable improvement in ET's at the dragstrip over the Edelbrock /carters. -Tom.

70 charger R/T - I just looked at the link for that new Demon. It looks to me like thats a carb thats gonna bridge the gap between Speed Demons and Race Demons. The Speed Demons come in either Vacuum secondaries or double pumpers. They also have a choke horn in case you want to by the optional choke plate for it. The Mighty Demon has no choke horn at all, comes with replacable air bleeds and idle feed restricters. The replacable air bleeds and idle feed restricters are a very nice thing if you have a big lumpy cam that doesnt draw much vacuum at idle. This is the carb they recomend for cars with high compression and cams 240 degrees @ .050 and up. -Tom.

70 charger R/T- With your setup I would sugjest the Mighty Demon for the extra tunability of the replacable air bleeds and feed restricters. The Speed Demon works for me with the same basic setup that you have, but if they would have had the Mighty Demon out then with it's extra tunability I would have bought that. The Idle restricter adjustment is used when your cam is big enough that the lack of vacuum at idle makes it where you can't set the idle mixture right with the mixture screws. If you can't back the idle mixture adjusting screws enough to get it right, you need to change the size of the idle feed restricters. My Speed demon came with an second set of press in restrictors for this. I had to use a drill bit to get the old ones out, then tap in the new size. That dropped the amount of turns out on the idle mixture screws from way open to 1 turn open. It would have been nice to be able to screw in replacable ones as needed for whatever motor i threw the carb on. I think for you either Demon would work great. It's just a case of a few extra adjustable items that you may or may not need for the extra dollars. You might want to call there tech line and see what they think whould be the best for your application. -Tom

Thanks Tom you were right. I e-mailed there tech dept and they said this:
"the 850 speed demon carbs are designed for mild 480 to 540 engines with dual plane intakes and cam shafts with less than 240 degrees duration. the mighty demons are calibrated for larger cam intakes and higher performance applications therefore we recommend the Mighty Demon 825."
