Default "Orange" e.c.u

Is the Orange ecu box that comes with teh Mopar electronic conv. kit pretty good? I read somewhere that someone replaced it, but i can't recall what they replaced it with. It's just gonna be used in a daily driver, but I'd like to get the most performance out of everything.
Thanks
Steve

some people will tell you they had problems with them .........me never had an ounce of trouble use one for bracket racing now if your going to highly modify your motor i would look at an msd box instead but if your not the orange ecu should do you fine

I run them in both the 440 Ramcharger and the 340 Duster. No issues at all. Ask around on the board. Someone may have one for sale. I believe they are getting nearly $30 new for them.

The Orange ECU box is a good reliable electronic ignition. Just make sure the case of the ECU box has a good ground connection.

I had a problem with the Orange box. It was new out of the box. I called Summit, of whom I made the purchase from, and they replaced it no problems.
The new box has performed perfect. 10 years and running.

There ya have it, the above posting has 10 years with an orange box. I've had no trouble with mine on a daily driver.

The chrome box from Mopar Performance is a step up. A bit more spark, but for a daily driver situation, I'd go orange.

I had better luck with the Wells box from the local parts house for half the price. I have two daily driver Mopars and that's my experience.

Wells parts - Made in ? Mexico? Isreal? Who knows what the specs on these are? Spark duration? If you'll compare the aftermarket stuff with the Chrysler units you will note more gel insulation on the underside of the Chrysler part. It's gonna last longer. More insulation means it will keep a more consistant temp for longer. Less extreme weather conditions. Hmm... I'd go with the Mopar Stuff.

Sure, some people will get a defect now and then. It's an electronic part. Ground it well and you're down the road.

Ditchpickle,
Personally I like the orange ECU. I have three Mopars with it and have had pretty good luck with them.
Although one that was six years old would cause the engine on my Bee to suddenly kill every now and then. Generally after a minute or two it'd start working again.
The last time it acted up it had to be replaced. Fortunately I carry a spare in the trunk of my cars.
The other two are still working fine. One is 10 yrs old, the other is 4 yrs old.

Blaine's experience mirrors mine exactly. I had a couple of orange boxes that went and went and went with no problems. I have also had a couple that worked OK most of the time but would fail sooner or later. One time I forgot which one was which and put one of the "bad" ones back in a buddy's car. It started and ran for a couple of weeks then failed again. I chucked it that time!

The Orange ECU is "not" made by Chrysler, Mopar sends specs to Vendors for bids and then accept the bid depending on several factors. You could have an Orange box made by Wells, MSD or some other off shore source. In a global economy and a foreign owner Chrysler purchases must be made with new think, things are no longer the way they were.
