Question Improvements with RPM Air-Gap

Hi all, who has swapped their intake for a edelbrock RPM air-gap on a small block? WHat kind of performance increase did you notice? 1/4 times better? I currently have a performer on my 340, which i know is holding it back (it came on the motor when i got it) I want to upgrade to the Air Gap, and would like to know what everyone thinks about this swap. Thanks

I bought one to put on my sailor Son's 340/'66 cuda. Engine isn't done yet, so I don't know what the result will be. The articles I have read about it say that it way outperforms a Performer and gives a bunch more low-end than the Performer RPM, with a little more top end than the Performer RPM. The car will be running 10.5:1 Edelbrock aluminum heads, out of the box, and a mild Crane cam with a 750 Edelbrock carb.

Should be on the street in about 30 days(I hope!!). I'll let you know.

If you get yours on first, tell us your results, OK?

I switched from the TorkerII and it is up on torque and HP is a neck & neck run with the RPM on top. Just remember that it has no cross over for coolent so it runs cooler. This may not seem like anything till it gets cold. Since I've been there , done that, it's like a big block via warm up time. (Have a couple a smokes while waiting.)

rumble - isn't the Torker II a single plane? Did you get noticable seat-of-the-pants improvement? How about fuel economy or vacuum improvement???????

This is a test. You will be timed.

Huff huff huff smokeins just great

I was busy answering your last entry on the318.. well go see it yourself...

Well, there was a seat of the pants feel and that was with a cam change as well.
I went from the purple 288/.497 - purple 292/.509 in the short block.
Vaccum... ha ha ha didn't look, or test sorry.
Fuel economy...never thought about getting any...

Yes, A Torker II is a small single plane unit. I still like it.

How did I do time wize???

Not trying to butt in on this one. I'm interested also. I have a 360 with the 509 cam and a torker II. I have been wondering if the switch to the air-gap would benefit my package. 360, j heads, forged flats, balanced, 4-speed and 4:10's. What do you thing Rumblefish?

I think that you'll pick up a few pounds of torque down low and be a few HP better up top. You'll probly like it. Being that I have both, the RPM handles the 750 a little better of the line and at idle.
If you don't mind dropin 200+ bucks on it, go buy it. I would use the regular water heated unit for a street ride. I have the air gap on top now. It idles like a ruffyon (SP) with an attiude till it warms up.

Rumble - you made it with the time, but your last post got points off for spelling... again. At least you KNEW where the error was.

Right now you are at a B+, but the scholarship and free Hemi-Cuda 4 speed convertible only go to A- or better... the clock is running!

Rumblefish

boy are you right about warm up times. I have one on my Duster 340 and I will typically do a lap or two around the neighborhood at just above a stumbling idle to warm up before ever venturing out to the major thoroughfares. to add to the warm up time, I am using a chevy bb billet water outlet (it looks great, and never leaks) but a mopar thermostat wont fit with it so I dont run one.

Rumble,

no it hasnt overheated yet...knock on wood, it made it through last summer without overheating. On a normal day in FL, it will run pretty steady at 180. and in bad traffic, will creep up to around 190 - 195. hasnt gotten any higher yet. I dont think using the word "gotten" is gonna get me any grammar awards around here tho. I have a nice shroud around the rad so I guess it works pretty well, this is one time I'm not gonna fix something that's not broken. at least just yet anyway. wonder how well it would cool if I slowed down the flow with a t-stat? Maybe someone knows where I can find a nice billet outlet that fits a Mopar small block. I really dont want the MP piece, and the pieces sold on e-bay are garbage. They suffer from flange bow, and leak like the devil. Dont waste your money with the e-bay pieces.
just my $.02

"gotten" is a very good and proper word, which you both spelled and used correctly. You may be the big winner, after all!!
