How is axle play adjusted with the "Green bearing"? I still have the old adjuster axles. Might change to Green someday.

Smile Green Bearing Adjustment

There is no adjustment to make when "green" bearings are used in place of the Timken tapered roller bearings on your axles. I have a set on my Dutchman axles that were made to fit the narrowed Dana 60 in my '64 Polara. They have been in place since July of '97 and have made two trips to Reno for "Hot August Nights" and occaisional trips since with no problems.

Theoretically, this design is weaker in terms of side loading than the tapered rollers. Since I don't do autocross or NASCAR I don't care.

Use them on all of my cars with no problems, Mopar and the after market are selling them to the public for all aroun use, evidently rumors live forever. I highly recommend them based on experience under all driving conditions.

What's the process to replace the old style tapered bearings with the green bearings?

Remove the old type bearings and have the new ones pressed on. Some advantages: the axles can be used on either side, there is no adjustments to make, they seal better no leaks and the price is comparable. The bearings are now being referred to as "non-adjustable" rather than "greens" because they are specifically desighed by Chrysler as replacements for the Timkens.

Thanks, George. I kind of figured that's what you do, but it's hard to understand why there's no adjustment. How does that work?
