Default 27 Spline Pinion Yoke

i need to find a 27 spline pinion yoke for my '72RR, but i heard they were only made for 2 years. none of the junk yards around here have anything, and they won't let me go find an old b-body and jerk the friggin thing out...sumthin about insurance, i don't know.

i really don't wanna have to jerk the whole rearend out and buy new ring and pinion gears (4.10's aren't cheap)

any help would be appreciated!

go to http://tmezz.mezzweb.com/ to check out my project!s

Have you tried Mancinni Racing? I think they sell the yokes.

Im a newbie to the puter stuff. So if this doesnt turn out flashy an cool dont hang me for it. Did you check RANDY RING AND PINION?They were the first to offer 3.73 for mopar rears. Ive seen something about 27 spline yokes and think he offered them.

yeah I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!...I've just returned to working on mine again, hopefully I'll hear it run for the first time in some twenty years this summer. Blew it up and finally finished the motor, all but center-lining the cam.
Have Fun!

Nice web page. If you like Yellow '71 Chargers check out my web page:

Is the 27 spline, the corse of fine version of the Yoke?
I bought a corse spline, large U-Joint yoke off E-Bay for $30.

dumb question....whats the difference?

usually i don't deal w/the rear end unless i have a problem w/it, i'm the type of guy the deals w/a high performance motor that always needs sumthin....

I just checked the yoke I bought, the corse spline yoke has 10 splines. I think the 10-spline pinion gears were used in the earlier axles. The one I need the yoke for is an 8-3/4" #741 case.

When I looked for this yoke in Year one, Mancinni, etc.. all the yokes were about $30 to $35, except the large U-Joint 10-spline one which was about $90! That is why I was happy to get if for $30 of E-Bay.

For each of the corse or fine spline yokes there is one for the large and smaller U-joint. I think your '72 should have the large U-Joint yoke?

ok, i see what you mean...yeah, it's got the big u-joints, but 27spline....impossible to find! i went to Mancinni but i didn't see any 27 spline.

mine will work for a while, i broke a bolt in it and started drillin under the car (too lazy to take it out...only one nut....) and didn't get in the middle of the bolt. i ended up cutting the entire side of the yoke and welding a long bolt in it, creating a stud. the only problem is the yoke is cast, and i don't know how long that weld will last w/the stress of quick accelerations w/friggin 50's on the back that only slip on water, gravel, snow, and anything other than dry asphalt or cement...

If the rear end under discussion is an 8 3/4", there are two pinion splines, 10 and 29. The 10 spline was available in all years but the 29 spline was used only after '69.
The 489 and 741 made after '69 could have either the 10 or 29 spline pinion, the size of the yoke retaining nut will tell the spline count. If the nut is 1 1/8" hex, the spline is 10, if the nut hex is 1 1/4" the spline is 29.
Both 10 and 29 splines and both u-joint width yokes are marketed by Mopar Performance but the availability is variable.

9"??? There is no dodge 9"??

If the carrier(center section) is removable, then it's an 8 3/4"
if not it could be an 8 1/4" or a 9 1/4"

If it really is a 9", then you've got a ford diff in there.

A 72 road runner should have an 8 3/4 inch rear end, unless it's a really odd one.

You should be able to get a yolk from a local gear supply vendor, or perhaps a drive shaft rebuilder.

According to the website the car is a '72 RR 340 which would have come from the factory with an 8 3/4" rear axle. In this case the yoke will be either 29 or 10 spline, there was no 27 spline.
The 29 spline yoke is available from Mopar Performance, the wide u-joint yoke is P/N P4529483 and the narrow u-joint yoke is P4529481.
