Default Has anyone used the Engle 4458-H cam ?

Was thinking of using this cam in a 318 I'm doing at the moment, just wondered if anyone has used it & what it performed like, specs are, PN 4458-H / K58HYD, .520 lift/.520 lift, 276/276 advertised duration, 230/230 @ 0.050, 110 LS, power 2,000 - 5,800 rpm..

Yeah, I'm looking seriously at that cam too, for a 360.
Anyone out there running it?

Or, how about the Hughes Engines HE2430AL and HE3038AL cams? Since Engle grinds the cams for Hughes, these two cams should give some idea of the Engle 4458-H cam.

Yes that's very true Cuda, but they are dual pattern camshafts & I was hoping for a single pattern grind, though I'm not entirely against the idea, I've done a lot of work to the 318 heads & felt the single pattern would be fine, the exhaust ports have been worked over pretty good, will be flow testing in about a week or 2

Fast, I know what you are saying. I will be using ported 360 swirl port heads (576 casting, 308 equivalent), and with the superior exhaust ports these heads have, I also feel a single pattern grind will do better. I was just mentioning the Hughes cams in case anyone could chime in about their perfomance characteristics, being they are reasonably close to the 4458.
I would think the 4458 would give good power to around 6300-6500 in a 318. And a somewhat lower range on the larger engines. What do ya think?

Yeah I guess the 318 would have a power range a bit higher than the 5,800 rpm, next cam down is 224/224 @ 0.050, .504 / .504 lift in the Engle range.

Haven't had the heads flow tested yet but going on what I've done it will be good flow up to .550 or more & I'm chasing a cam with the most lift but not with too much duration, perhaps a custom grind might be needed, see how the tests go.

I could use an off the shelf cam with 1.6 ratio rockers to boost the lift if necessary.

I am surprised though, I thought Engle was a popular cam maker & someone would have chimed in with their experience with it, oh well I'll just keep looking..
