Part Compatibility Expertise Needed
I've got to replace a strut rod on the front of my disk brake '72 Swinger. Apparently the previous owner swapped in a slightly longer rod that is now causing me bushing problems in the lower control arm. I was hoping someone could tell me what other years/models I can pull a strut rod from that will match an original '72 Dart rod since finding any mopar in a junkyard in Northern CA is hard enough... let alone finiding a '72 Dart specifically.
Thanks, Steve |

A local wrecker should have an "interchange" manual that will tell you what cars will have the same stuff.
I'm not sure which ones are right, myself. |

I think any "A" body would do. No?

I would look for another source for the problem, is the torque set with the chassis loaded, what type of bushing is used the urethanes can cause problems in the lower control arm. I have seen bent rods, and thought all were the same length on A-bodies, if both are the same diameter just turn some more threads on the front portion and use what you have.

Here's the problem
http://www.moparchat.com/forums/show...=bushing+blues
That is a link to my previous post, which has pictures about the problem. I put PSTs polygraphite bushing into the lower control arms. Upon lightly tightening the pivot shaft on the passenger side LCR, it started to pull the shaft out of the bushing and the bushing out of the arm. I assume this is because the strut rod is too long and doesnt allow the control arm to be snug up against the pivot shaft. On the driver's side, I have what I assume is the correct length strut rod and there is no bushing pull-out problem. I'm afraid if I leave it as is, the control arm might slide off of the pivot and the car does a nose dive. I'd prefer to avoid that situation -Steve |

If you suspect one of the strut rods is wrong, wouldn't a tape measure tell you if there is a difference from side to side?
