Default holley 1050

Hi guys, dumb question from me time again.
I run a Holley 1050 (list # 9375) on my 507 cube motor. It leaves a nice black smoke screen behind, so bad I don't know whose doors I have blown off.!!
Before this carb, I ran an 830 Holley, list 9381, and the 1050 made a good improvement in power.
I have played with measuring exhaust temperatures, jets etc, but it is still running way too rich.
Am I wasting my time, and fuel money, trying to run this carb as a high performance street unit, or are there ways I can tune it to run cleaner?
The cam I am using is the baby .528 MP solid lifter cam, heads are stage 6 and have been ported. Any suggestions would be appreciated, as your suggestions I have received have already cured my drive line vibrations, traction problems, and a couple of other questions I have put to you guys. Thanks.
