Lightbulb points or electric???

well now it is time to decide points or electric distributor, for my 69 440. sure electric is much easier to use when you want bigger wires or somthing, but are points better for it. i here alot of different stories, electric gives better spark, points are the way to go for old cars, you cant find good points any more. blah blah balh and so on so here is a poll what do you guys think points or electric??

go with electric...we are getting ready to convert my brothers to electric.

points work, but they can be a problem. ie: correct gap, timing, burned or not, correct condensor, good condensor?

the electric setup, you know it isn't working when there is no spark, and there is not a whole lot that can go wrong w/it...(on mine anyway...)

i would go electric if i were you, you don't have to worry about burning up points w/a really strong coil.

No one runs points in the new cars. Why bother? Electronic is the way to go. Way more reliable.

Points are for 100 point original show cars (trailer queens) only. Electronic is better, faster, cheaper, no maintenance and lasts longer.................djs

Electronic may be better in many ways but points aint that bad.Ive had sets that have lasted for two to three years plus they are cheap and easy to deal with.

Whenever I use an electronic ignition, I carry my old point type dist. in the trunk. Just in case. I have had to use it a few times.

electric is more reliable, easier to maintain, and more accurate,it is not hard or expensive to convert,in my opinion it is the ONLY way to go

I upgraded my old '69 from points to electric, last year. It was a difference between night and day. Many years ago, I upgraded my '68 Charger to a Mallory Unilite and haven't been dissappointed by it either.

If you insist on going with points, at least go with dual points. They may be a little harder to setup, but the are far superior to single points.

Default point`s or elictronic

Well it depends on the application.
If I intended to cross the frozen tundra and head for the north pole.
Where the only thing you can pass is a dog sled then I would
want points.
Because they are simple in design and function.
99 times out of 100 an emery board and a screw driver will
get you down the trail.
I Have heard of places were police are useing new technolagy.
Wich is the equivalent to a stun gun for electronic ignition.
But for consistent and mostly dependable sevice I would
Go with the electronic set up.
They eighther work or they don`t.
There is no in between.
Besides I can`t stand the cold and I gave up bank robbing years ago.

No more points

I did away with points on my car 10 years ago, I don't miss them. I went with Mopar electronic kit with orange box. I have never had a problem with it, and I installed it myself. It's easy and no wires to cut. It even comes with a ballast resistor and wire harness.
I added an electronic regulator at the same time. I highly recomend this.

For the guys who have been around for a while this seems to be a no-brainer when you first look at it. Most all of us that grew up with points switched because of the ease of starting, the basic reliability, the performance advantages, the consistency of dwell, etc. After I read the post, I thought about it for a while. Goes back to use. I have never had a point failure in any of my restored cars, none of the original purchased Muscle Cars of the early to late 60's, or pickups I have owned. You can fix them on the side of the road with a file, or a new set and a matchbook cover.

I have converted everything but the restored cars to electronic. They work good when they work, which is 99.9% of the time. I do however always carry a ballast resistor and a control box for the Mopar Electronic Distributors. I always have a spare module for the Unilite Distributors and two extra MSD boxes for the dragstrip. I have an extra computer for the 3500 Cummins Diesel and a lift pump. I really hate standing on the side of the road.....and besides that.......I have always been told that electronic/computer controlled is better. How much smarter can I get.
