Smile Newbe Here and i gots some ?'s

hey everyone i just bought a 1986 chrysler fith avenue with a 318 in it and a single bbl carb. i got the car for $175 and i think it was a really good deal considering the body is perfect, the interior is perfect and the engine starts right up. the only thing that is wrong with it is that it has a cracked windsheld and some of the lights dont work. i am planing on turning this car into a backyard rally car. the car no longer has an exhaust system since we cut it off right before the cat. Also i am planing on cutting part of the roof off right after the front doors to save weight and it would be kinda cool.

is there anything that i can do to this car to make it go faster without spending any money at all or very little. i was thinking of puting a gas powered leaf blower on there for forced induction. anyone with any thought please speak up.

thanks ryan

Why destroy what sounds like a very nice car? WHy not sell it for a profit, buy a beater and cut that up? The carb is a 2 barrel.

If you cut the roof or the car off you are going to seriously stress the rest of the car. That is why convertibles are heavier because they have a seriously beefed up frame. If it is such a good car then why are you going to trash it! In 2000 mopar muscle did a couple of build ups on these early 80's cordobra's and 5th avenues. They made some real impressive street machines out of them. I think they dropped a 440 into a cordobra and they suped up a 360 in a 5th ave. That would be a better route if you ask me. Talk about a sleeper!

Cutting the exhaust off before the cat is a great way to get carbon monoxide poisoning and if you want to make your 318 perform better a set of cheap headers and a true dual 2 1/4" exhaust system will work way more effectively than what you are doing now.

Question why?

Hey, I just picked up a n old 70 arr, or aarr or some wierd letter thing Cuda for $2000. I think I will chop it up and make a dune buggy with it. Thinking of putting a slant six in it too. the motor that is in it is way to loud and sucks alot of gas with its (can you believe) three carbs!

Just kidding fellas!

Leaf blower forced induction.... Hmmmm.... Maybe you should put the leaf blower against your ear, so that you can blow out the leafs and spider webs, from your brain.

a leaf blower will only put in so much air, considering a blower has only about 1 hp to use. Consider a 6-71 blower that uses what, like 60 HP to turn, and that puts out 8 psi into a 440 running 4000 rpm. that 440 is pulling something like 400 cubic feet per minute at 1 atmosphere. Now add 8psi on top of that. That is ALOT of air going into that motor, way more than a leaf blower. Put the leaf blower into your go-ped, you might see some increases in power. better yet, go to N.O.S's web site and check out their nitrous set up for your Go-Ped, no joke!

why would you want to cut up that car if it is so nice??I am sure someone here has a car that has been rolled, that they will trade you,it is a MUCH better candidate, because you would most likely need to chop the top to make it driveable again...

I think Eholster has the right Idea, use that leaf blower to "clean the house"then you may be able to think a little more clearly...

Cut up a Fifth Avenue?

It sounds like you'd like a high-performance Mopar (who doesn't want one?), but you've got a Chrysler luxury car.

I think that you should look into selling the Fifth Avenue for profit (that shouldn't be too hard) to a Mopar guy who will take care of it and not chop it up.

I have an '84 Fifth Avenue with a little over 50,000 original miles (was my Dad's). Mint condition and I plan to keep her that way.

Considering that the Fifth Avenues were the last rear-wheel-drive V8 Chrysler luxury sedan, these likely will be collector cars to a degree in the future.

I say preserve some Mopar history by selling this baby and getting something along the lines of what you're really looking for.

A leaf blower? Good Lord.

we have a really high powered leave blower that we were going to use its one of the ones you wear on your back. sorry guys who wanted the car but it is already choped up, no rear doors or roof and it now has a big hood scoop on it. if you want any parts i can see if i can salvage any for ya if you want. i am trying to put as little money into this as possible. I already have a muscle car which is a 85 Lincoln Mark VII and it has alot more power then the 5th ave. sorry to dissapoint some of you guys but it is so much fun to drive it off road.

just one more question where are the springs in the front?

The Lincoln Mark VII is based on the same body as a 80's fox body mustang and has the same 5.0 HO engine in them and the same drive train as the auto mustangs, they just weigh more. The Lincoln Mark VIIÂ’s came with 225hp stock and the Mark VIII's came with 290hp stock so I think they make a much better and easier to mod luxury car then any mopar

My mom had a 86 5th ave. It was her daily driver/commuter. When it finally was gotten rid of it had about 280 thousand miles. That was the plushest car iv'e ridden in or drove. Those 318's never quit man.

Well there you have it guys we might has well just give up. The lincolns are much more of a muscle-luxury car than a GTX, or a Sport Fury GT, or a 300, or maybe a Challenger R/T SE!

In fact me might has well put away our Challenger R/T's, Charger R/T's, Coronet R/T's, Cuda's, Barracuda Gran Sports, Daytona's, Superbirds's, Charger 500's, and Sport Satellites.

Hell what's the use in fighting it's time to retire the Super Bee's, Roadrunner's, Demon 340's, Duster 340's, Dart Sport 340's, Dart Swingers, Dart GT's, Dart GTS's, and Barracuda S's.

Yeah MoPar didn't make too many high performace cars.
Oh my oh my the lincoln's are coming guys...watch out!
