Default Carbs

I'm running a holley double pumper right now, though I dont know what the CFM on it is. I'm curious as to what I should run for a carburetor with my car?

I am building a mild 440 right now, edelbrock RPM heads, edelbrock victor intake, .480" cam (230 duration). I am however building a 496 stroker as well... so most parts will be transplanted to that after I am done with the 496.

I saw the last mopar muscle had a special on the 800cfm edelbrock, and it dropped .3 off in the 1/4 vs a 750cfm on a 383.

Opinions, past trials and tribulations all are welcome

Thanx for all the info!

Just for thought.....

A 496" engine will be able to pump (based on displacement along) 718 cfm at 5000 rpm and 861 cfm at 6000 rpm.

Figure out what you think your max rpm is...then size your carb. If doesn't sound like you would be spinning any faster than 5500 rpm. I am not too experienced in this area, but you might not spin too much past 5000 rpm.

I had a 455 olds with about the same amount of cam, and it wouldn't go past 5000.

I am sure others would have more insight to that than I would.

actually... I've had the engine that WAS in the RR (the soon to be 496) revving over 6500RPM without any problems.

That cam is going into the temp 440 until I get the 496 built so i can have a mobile and running RR, I will be usin that motor to get the suspension to start working right etc (needs lotsa new parts).

I will be using a roller cam with around .600 lift. The car will be street legal though, so I might run a .550" lift or so.

Thanx for the info.

Sounds like the VE of the engine will exceed the 800 if you plane on a high rever. The stroker will not spin as high as the 440 due to the larger stroke. It can be made to no doubt. Just a TON of work to have it do so.
Cam has a lot to do with it. If I remember correct, your cam was small. 272 i think.
RogerH is correct on the size. You got it Roger. Better of small than to big and a pig.

um.... I will NOT be running a .480 lift in the storoker, I'm just running it right now in the temp. motor. The stroker will have prolly a .550" lift or .6 " .
