Default i bought the 3.91's look!

i bought the gears with sure grip on saturday. i will be putting them in next saturday. it costed $310. it is the 489 casting, big yoke and pinion, everything on it is beefy. how much quicker do you think it will be going from 2.76's to 3.91's. vehicle> my 69 newyorker 440 4bbl. keep in mind stock with 2.76's it ran 14.67@99mph. and another thing how easy will it be to do a power break?? its hard to do with 2.76's.

You won't believe the difference I'm sure going from 2.76 to 3.91. Of course your gas mileage may suck now but who cares right? You should really smoke them tires now. Let us know what she runs with the new gears as that's a good time already for a car that size with 2.76 gears.

you think 3.91's will do good on burnout, try 4.10's! of course, i need water before it'll work because of how grippy my tires are, and gas sucks, but who does care? i'll have to get pics of my burnouts too!

good choice going w/sure grip, that thing will get outta the hole like a mother! _as long as they aren't sittin back havin a smoke )

Food for thought. Your stock New yorker rear suspension may take the beating for now, but you may want to consider concentrating on your rear setup. I am sure the shock and rear springs on a New yorker are soft compared to a high performance car and you may get a lot of wheel and axle hop. Hemi springs, good shocks, and a pinion snubber will help out the rear in the long run.

What was the pumkin in previously? Sometimes the pinion gears can develop a wear pattern depending on the driveshaft angle and the rear suspension geometry. I've heard of people swapping used gears and after a while they start getting driveline vibrations. Just something to consider. Have fun!

as far as the rear suspension goes-mopar does not make springs for our c-bodies .

i had mine built by detroit-eaton spring.they were a little more expensive, but worth every penny.

good luck finding torsion bars too.i got a set from pst years back when i did my suspension, they were too short.turns out they don't have any the right length, even tho "the computer says they're the right ones"

later,sean

are you swapping in the whole pumpkin? if so, I can only assume that your 2.76 was a "one legger" if so, those 3.91's will make a huge difference.

when I first got the big block in the car, it ran 13.8's with a one leg and 2.94's (maybe not exactly 2.94, but cant remember the exact ratio, but was numerically under 3.00)

then I swapped in a 3.55 suregrip, and ran 13.1!!! that was with hoosier quick times and the stock pinion (non adjustable) snubber.

You will easily be in the mid 13's, nice for such a big ride!
