I need to know how much play to leave when adjusting the bands on a 33 3 speed dodge tranny.

I think somethings missing here, in 1933 Dodge had only manual transmissions, no bands inside them. Unless you are possibly referring to the emergency brake band on the tailshaft? I'll have to look in my old FSM's at home, later.

That was supposed to read 1988 3 Speed transmission. I did find the information from a tranny man I know. Thanks for the interest

When adjusting bands in a torqueflite, I disregard the factory proceedure of using an inch-pound torque wrench and counting turns. I simply adjust for 1/4" to 5/16" clearance between the lever and servo where they touch. Use a screwdriver to take out the slack (to hold band in applied position to measure). I also crank the line pressure spring adjuster to the maximum for harder shifts. I've been doing this on 727's and 904's for 6 years with no trouble ever.

the reason that method doesnt give you a problem is because thats how they adjust them at the transmission plant, they torque the adjuster down on a spacer then pop out the spacer.
