Post 1st Pass on Hensley 400 ci Small Block

After a few fuel system changes, frontend adjustments and other changes I finally got a decent pass out of the car. It ran 6.73 on the 1st pass. I tuned the carb a bit and got 6.63 out of it. The 330 ft was 4.33. The time clock was screwed up and wouldn't show 60 ft nor mph. The car pulled the left front 3-4 ft in the air and the right front half that distance. My Caltracs made it today and I'll have them installed this weekend. I'll keep you posted. Wedgehead

Default Way to go!

Fun motors, aren't they? What was your stripe rpm with those 5.13's?

WOW THATS A STRONG RUNNER.My brother and I are about to build a motor for his demon, we both have cars but he has a family and I don't , so I drive the street quite often, my brother on the other hand has 3 kids and cruising for chicks doesn't really go over that well with his wife, so we are going to to build a serious strip motor around the same sort of setup you have, w-2's small block stroker victor w2 etc. We have been trying to figure out what this will run depending on what cam we run. The weight of your car is around the same as the demon but we have a 4-link under the thing. The car has run a best time of 7.21 in the 1/8 with a old 360 and the way too radical w-2's with 2.08 intakes with this setup, but thats with a 100 horse shot of nos. My question is how much porting was done to the heads and what is the cost of a motor like you are running. Thanks for any suggestions.

Post Stroker

The motor was built with N2O in mind. It only has 12.7 to 1 compression. It is much more serious than the car it's in. I've been running Chrysler a long time and when the car looks real serious and fast, the competition gets scared(Chebbies & Phords). So for this reason, I'm trying to get this motor to work with a stock type suspension. Springs moved in, frame tied and lots of work getting the weight distr. correct. This type motor from Hensley will cost around $9000. I'm planning to shoot a 200 hp shot on this motor but I'm still working on the tune up and suspension. Should get close to 6.30's on the motor. N2O should get me well into the 5's. If I have to I'll install a 4-link w/coil overs. Wedgehead

thanks for the info. My challenger is setup with caltracs and adjustable rear shocks, a 4 speed and recent edelbrock heads and cam. It's a samllblock(thats all we run) and it ran 7.9 before I changed heads and cam so I'm hoping mid 7's. The caltracs really helped me out, they basically got me into the 7's because my 60ft dropped drastically, I think you will like them.

Thumbs up what heads

Hi pro street challenger, just wondering what kind of edelbrock heads you running on what year of small block. i am thinking of purchasing edel aluminum heads # 6077 for my 73 340 with forged flat top pistons. I,ve been told though too tear down my motor and make sure my piston does not rise above the block so as not to buy the wrong heads. Thanks Tim

Post Fuel System

Hi Tim:
This thing really needs lots of gas. I had 2 Holley blue pumps with my old setup but upgraded when I installed this motor. I'm currently using the BG 280 w/1/2 in copper fuel line. I'm using the 2 Holley regulators and I regulate each bowl of the 1050 off of a Y-block w/fuel pressure regulator on each. I don't think the Holleys will keep pace with this thing. Also check your inlet and outlet sizes where you exit the fuel tank. Make sure you have no restrictions where you have fittings connected. I'm interested in your specs on your camshaft, do you mind posting? Also what block are you using? Wedgehead

bc tim, I would tear down your top end before buying the 6077 eddy head, just to make sure. I haven't checked clearances yet but will be doing them in a few days, I already know I'm going to be close, I think my pistons stick out of the cylinder no more then .005 but that might be enough to screw me. The edelbrock instructions say a minimum of .035 and the mopar engine book says .060 clearance is minumum between your head and piston. So I don't know who to believe but I do know if it's .035 that I have there it better be correct because it will be going back together. The only reason I went with the 6077 is because I wanted to squeeze as much compression out of it. If your piston sticks out of the deck don't buy the 6077 get the 340 eddies.

wedgehead,
the tank has 2 #12s coming out! i was going to get a bg400,do you find the 280 to be sufficient?what regs are u using?
my block is a very well preped 70 340!!its been running 11*10s for over 9 years in my street driven(allot) stock suspentioned, street(11.5)hoosiers, muffeled 69dart. this winter was the first tear down and went crazy on the w2s and up comp to 14-1,cam is the shops custom piece thats in all there 10second small blocks, only know its has 640lift (solid roller)!
they put it together 9years ago,so i trust them on the rebuild!

Tim:
The BG280 will work just fine for you. I'm using the Holley regs with it. Be sure to check all restriction areas!! Good luck and keep us posted. Wedgehead

Smile piston clearance

Thanks pro street, i phoned my engine builder and he thought my pistons came out the block 15 thou, so i don,t know if that is too much and also it was 3 years ago that he did this so i think I will tear it down just to be sure. you are saying that any piston hieght at all out of the block is too much for the 6077,s? I am afraid that the 340 ones will give me too much of a compression loss. Will let ya know what I find out, thanks Tim
