Default Any lightweight junkyard seats recomended?

Any types of bucket seats that would be light, perhaps cloth material that would fit in my 69 Charger?,,,,for example something out of a newer style car???,,( escort/mustang/chrysler/gm/ford product).....want something lighter and not sure if i want to go the summit plastic seat route....but thought something out of a different car might work out...........

Most of the seats that you'll come across will have tracks that have to be modified to meet your floor pan. Strivtly on a comfort level, I've used Volvo buckets, as well as those from Cougars and Toyota 4X4's. All have good lumbar support while using a cloth cover. It's really up to you as to what you want in your ride.

Default Light junkyard seats

I like the crowleys milk crate mounted up side down. Easy to get in and out, not alot of back support though. And they only weigh about 22 ozs.

Milk crates are great but I always have trouble getting them through tech inspection.....

Look at some Neon or Chevette buckets, if your a$$ will fit in them the're pretty light. If you use these little seats you can build a frame from 1x1 tubing, bolt the seat to the frame and weld the 1x1 frame to the floor at the right position.

Maybe even from an 80's era FWD Mopar. The old Carroll Shelby cars had nice seats. Like the GLHS Chargers and such, or maybe from a Spirit.

I am using seats from a (gulp) Pontiac J-200. They are the cloth version of the Chevette seat. I bolted them in with the Pontiac brackets. They fit my Scamp well and are light. I think they weigh about 20 lbs.

I pulled some seats out of an LTD II a few years back and used them to replace the bench seat in my car... they are cloth covered and fairly comfortable. I dunno what they weigh though. There's no power accesories in them so they can't be too heavy. Best thing is that nobody wants those cars so they're pretty cheap.

I seem to recall the racers in the early to mid sixties using the lightweight seats out of dodge vans, B100's I think. although not cloth and I m sure comfort was not a priority.

Not trying to be a dick, but the seats where out of an A100. I have a B200 ('77) I think with the body style change (69 ish). The seats in the B200's weigh a ton. I would pick up 4 seconds if I did the milk crate conversion.

Default Van seats

LOL.
no offense taken, just have a vague memory of van seats in some of those old 64 plymouths and dodges.

If I were changing seats, I would try to find a set with the seatbelt ancored into the seat itself. that would do away with the not-to-convenient factory three point set up. I seem to remember reading that when the sebring first came out, it had this set up. do not know about weight savings, though

r2, I plan to switch to buckets soon also, but the one thing that steers me away from using a factory seat is the lack of slots for my harness. Maybe there is a way to 'add' slots?

Randy, I was looking at the Summit stuff, but not sure if i want to go that route, for comfort sakes,,, I do like my seats, but they are HEAVY,,,nearly busted a nut pulling the seat out when i redid the manual brakes.
Are you going with a stock style seat or something aftermarket?
I saw this Fairlane at Bakers last week and he had some cool, black, cloth seats that looked like they were out of a newer car but looked right at home in his ride,,,he didnt know what they were out of, ( were in there when he bought the car)...
I suppose a good upholstery person could fab up something to run through the seat for the harness,,,,
Might be time for me and you to head to the junkyard in search of some seats, eh??

r2, I am kinda leaning towards the summit type race seats. I have heard that with the cover they are not too bad as far as comfort. I'm sure a little extra padding could be hidden under it too, if needed. However...if a shop could nicely add a slot for my shoulder belts, I might reconsider. Especially if I find something that could fold/recline that looks good.
I have a yard in mind that I will pre-scout while working to see if anything looks promising and let you know.
