Angry Clutch Phenominon?

I just installed a Zoom Hy-perfection diaphram style clutch in my 74-duster. At low RPMs the clutch works like a charm but when i shifted at about 4000 RPM the clutch was sucked open and would not engage unless the rpms dropped bellow 3600. I was even able to take my foot completely off pedal and it was still being held against the floor! I have driven many different cars with diaphram clutches in them and this has never happend before. Is this a fluke or what? Any info on the subject would be helpful, this problem is killing my 1/4 mile times.

With centerforce clutches of similar type you have the same problems - you have to remove the BIG assed spring on your pedal - it is huge you can't miss it - it pulls the pedal down. It looks like its designed to "help" you push the factory clutch in, the problem is the newer clutch desings require less pedal pressure to release and the spring actually is holding it released on its own without the help of your foot. Pull that spring out and it will work fine.

Acutally I think that that spring is designed to pull the peddel up. Try setting your clutch to where it does not enguage as much.

Trust me there is more than one spring, the normal size spring is to pull the pedal up, there is a HUGE monster spring that pulls the pedal DOWN it is mechanically set up (getting technical here ) so that it assists after you get the pedal like halfway down, the best I could describe it is it is "cammed"

I have doen this on NUMEROUS Centerforce dual friction clutches that exhibited the same symptoms you are describing, and was in fact instructed by my local Chrysler dealer EXPERT on classic Mopar stuff (Cal Anderson - Hub Chrysler!) to do this.

Yip our 66' cuda was convertered to an auto but has all the manual stuff still in there. 3- on the tree. The clutch pedal stays on the floor. It is a bitch to pull up. Once up about 2 inches down it slams to the floor. That spring looks like a hood hinge spring.

That is wild. I am waiting for my first Centerforce DF to get here.
I put that spring in there!
Hey, does the DF really need 450 miles break in before standing on it?
