Help, 440 blowing off valve covers!
Help, I have a 440 that has only 25,000 on rebuild. It over heated after loosing a freeze plug in one head. Now when you try to start it , it literaly blows the gaskets out from the valve covers with a bang and it blew the valley pan (puffed up like a pillow). The oil pan looks fine so the problem is only in the top end. I have never heard of this happening befor. Any help on where to start looking.

A leak down test, sounds like a hurt piston.

yeah, close the valves and put some air pressure into the sparkplug holes, I bet you got a holed piston. Sounds like you power stroke is getting out of the cylinder and into your crankcase.

440 blowing valve covers
To all, thank you for the advice. I suspected a burnt piston, but did not want to think it.
