Cool 727 trans change 2wd to 4wd

I want to built a 440 for my jeep, but I don't have a big block 4x4 trans. I have one for a 2wd. What I want to know is can I unbolt the tailshaft off the 2wd trans take the out put shaft out and swap it for my out put shaft out of my small block 4x4 trans Then bolt on transfercase and go. Oh they are both 727 tranys.

I think the swap you want to do will work, but have never done it myself... I take it you are stuck on doing a married case? A divorced style would be easy to set up, but then again a CJ doesn't have a lot of length to work with.

Yes, what you described should work. I'm going to be doing the same thing in the near future to my Ramcharger. My tranny expert said we're going to do just what you said you're going to do.

Good luck.............MoJoe

It definitely works. I had a 318 small block 727 4wd truck, put a 440 and passender car 727 in. Took the big block case, and the small block truck 727 output shaft/etc. and made a big block truck trans out offthe two.

Cool

That's is just what I wanted to here. Now can anyone tell me where I can go on the Internet to find information on how to rebuild the 727.

Check the book I dropped off over the weekend.
It's got all the info you'll ever need, and lots of pictures for you to look at.
