318 or 340?
I'm looking for a dart/demon/duster to run low 14s eventually. I've found one in my price range (about 3K) but it has a 318. Should I hold out for a 340 or bigger, or can I run low 14s with a 318 with just bolt-ons??
I'd prefer not to go into the motor, to keep things in my level of mech. ability. Thanks, Robert |

3k wont touch a 340 in any of those platforms unless the motor or car needs some serious work. Maybe a 360, but few stock 360 years are available in any of those. Low 14's are very common with bolt ons.

pishta's right, a 340 is really hard on a wallet, and credit cards get worn out quickly... i put about $4,000 into mine, but i did do some serious work to it. go to http://tmezz.mezzweb.com/ to check out my rebuild. i had it runnin for a while but i overlooked a gasket when i put it on, and foolishly put in hyd. lifters and ended up flattenin my cam. i got the cam in, now i'm waiting on aluminum roller rockers that are adjustable. a 340 is a great motor, and so is a 318, just ask cuda66273... he posted a thread about his 318, its at http://www.moparchat.com/forums/show...threadid=52375 look through that and look at the pics...with the right work, 318's can do what a 340 can do easy!

Purchase the car and swap in a 340-360 later. It's easy to do.
If a swap is to scary, the 318 will run well. 14 are an easy target to achieve. Thou a can may be in order. There not hard. They just take time to do. |

So I'm going to check out this 70 Duster 318.... is there anything specific to the model/year that I should watch out for? I know the basic stuff like checking for rust/bondo etc.
Thanks |

I have a better answer!!! Buy my 360 Dart!
1970 Dodge Dart 46k original miles Was 6cyl car New MP 360 10 to 1 Short Block New Edelbrock Aluminum Heads Holley Street Dominator Intake New Holley 830 double pumper Rebuilt 727 Auto with Cheetah reverse manual valve body New Alabama Conver (2800-3200 stall) Rebuilt driveshaft with new U-joints Rebuilt 742 Case Center Section, 3.55 gears, with NOS sure-grip Moser Hardened Street Axles with long wheel studs Rebuilt 11 rear drums (new wheel cylinders, spring kit and shoes) Re-arched leaf springs with leaf added New axle U-bolts Rebuilt front Disc Brakes (from 73 Dart new rotors, calipers, lines, pads, bearings and seals and K-frame) New front end (new upper and lower control arm bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, pittman arm, idler arm) New front shocks New Tires (all four) Police car Wheels with matching caps New exhaust with New Warlock Mufflers New Spitfire Headers Mini Tach Gauges Rebuilt 3 row Harrison Raditor New belts and hoses B-3 Blue, MAACO paint (a little faded), good blue interior (some small rips), white vinyl top (VGC). Car runs an estimated 13.8 ET in the Quarter (G-tech) @ 5,500 ft. elevation Everything on this car is done! If you want faster all you need are some gears and a bit smaller cam or some better pistons. If you buy a 318 car you will have to go through everything. The trans is most likely a 904 and you won't want to run that. The rear end will most likely be an 8 1/4 and you don't want to run that either. You would spend WAY more than $5,500 on building it yourself. The drivetrain is setup for some serious power and will handle 500+ hp easily. This car is very clean with NO ru |

I am selling it because I am way burned out on car stuff at the moment. B-body is my favorite and in a few years I will find a nice B-body to work on. We also just had another little guy and the car stuff is very low on my priority list right now. I would be interested in a trade. Call to discuss if you are serious (970) 613-8747.
Thanks, Blake |
