Question

Okay,

here is the question. I want to put my 99 ram radio in my 88 ram. If I get the plugs needed to do that will that newer radio fit in my 88 ram dash? They seem to be the same. Of course my Kenwood is already in my 99 ram so now it is a matter of putting the other radio in my 88 ram.

Thumbs up

I know that the plugs are the same but the mounting could have changed.

Hey Coop,

Thanks. I guess I won't know until I go to put it in. I never checked to see. Hopefully it will work.

I tried to put a chrysler radio from a 94 sundance in my 86 D150. The wire hook ups were the same, and it worked fine, but the problem was that the control buttons were in different locations, and the large trim piece of the dash (the woodgrain part) would not fit over the buttons.
But that was a 94 and I know the stereos have changed design since then, but the connections in the back should be the same, so the mounting holes and the trim piece should be the only concern.

Question

Okay,

The 99 radio fits perfectly into my 88 dash. It is the same mounting and plugs from 1999 as it is for 1988. Now I need some help. I need the black and gray plugs in order to hook the radio up. How do I get them? Next, could someone please give me a color by color description of what each wire is in the black and gray plugs? This would be greatly appreciated!!!.

Stop by a local Pep Boys, and look for an aftermarket wiring adapter. These provide the radio side plugs, to connect to the harness, as well as a color code for the actual wiring.
