Trans Cooler
I am switching from a 4 speed to a 727 auto in my 74 Duster. The radiator I have is for a manual trans I think. I plan on running an external cooler anyway and just wanted to make sure that an external cooler would provide enough cooling by itself and I was also wondering where is the best place to mount the cooler ? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Auxiliary trans cooler
An external cooler is fine. Make sure you check the measurements of your existing radiator so that you get a cooler to fit properly. The mounting of the cooler is very important. If you mount in front of the radiator you get 100% cooling efficiency of your cooler. Anywhere else you lose efficiency of the cooling effect. Wedgehead

Thanks Wedgehead. When you say to measure the radiator do you mean the trans cooler needs to be the same width as the radiator ?

Trans Cooler
The cooler needs to be a bit smaller than the radiator. Give yourself at least 2- 2 1/2 in. on both sides. Your main concern will be the width of the cooler compared to the radiator. You'll need enough room for your hoses to route them back to your tranny. Wedgehead
