Default Vent valve on Challengers Holley 4160

Hi
It nearly time to start up the engine after a long winters total restore!!
Wish me luck!
I found an original Holley carb for the 383HP and have a Q concerning the air vent valve on front,on top of the primary housing. When throttle at idle, the linkage force the valve to open!!
Im used to Carters and for me,it seams a little strange to open up for fuel right over hot engine,I guess it works ok but before starting up the engine it would be nice to have any comment from you who knows!!
Thanks in advance and best R Olle B

Also on the primary bowl there should be the bowl vent valve tube. It connects by a hose to the breather cap (should have something like 3 fittings on it) on the valve cover. This way the bowl is vented by the PCV when idling. You should not went it into open air (although most people, including myself, do).

NO,on this specific Holley and by the folder included in the Holley repair/ gasket kit theres a airvent on top of front,,primary bowl and theres no possibility to connect a hose!
I understand the meaning of even the pressure after getting into the carb, but shall I bent the linkage to get a shorter/ smaller opening time for the valve, or maybe it work well, I havent heard of that many engineburnup Challenger R/T conv!!

Best regards Olle B

What's the number if our carb (I guess the car is -70 since that was the only year for the R/T conv?)?.

Hi Folke

Yes it's a 70 and the carb is stamped 4369.

I take back everything I've said and state the contrary!. I made to quick an assumption of similarities between -70 and -71 evaporation control systems. Yours is an C.A.S (Cleaner Air System) carburetor and the bowl is vented into the open air. The 4369A was used only on 383 cars with auto and A/C.
