Default ignition help?

I have a 66 charger with 440. I was driving along and it just died on me. After that when I try and start it, it runs in the start position but as soon as I let it go to the run position it dies. I can hot wire it by connecting the ignition 1, ignition2, and acc. all to the battery. First I thought it was the ignition switch but after replacing it the same thing happens. Any ideas would be great.
thanks

The ballast resistor has failed. When starting the engine, you bypass it for full current to the coil. In the run mode, current goes through the ballast, before hitting the coil.

Definately a ballast resistor. It's a good idea to keep a spare in the car. In fact it's good to have a spare coil, brainbox, and resistor!!!! Gotta love ma MoPar!

The last time I had a ballast fail, I just pulled the two connectors off of it and put a paper clip between the connectors. I worked until I upgraded the ignition system with the MOPAR electronic kit that came with a new ballast. The paper clip is a good temp fix, to limp home. I wouldn't recommend it for daily driving, as the coil wasn't designed to handle full current for extended periods.
