Hi,
I've got a 1960 DeSoto Adventurer with a 383 that I'm rebuilding. It has the old style generator instead of an alternator. I want to replace it with a new alternator, but I'm not sure that's possible. Electrically I don't see a problem, but is it physically possible? Are the bosses for the generator mounting bracket compatable with an off the shelf alternator/bracket? There is also an external voltage regulator mounted in the engine compartment that will probably have to be replaced. Thanks! Pat |

Yes, your swap is not that hard. In 1963 Mopar went to an alternator and the swap is not that hard, all you will need is the correct brackets, regulator and alternator. These parts should not be that hard to find. Just remember that you have a different 383 than the 63 and newer engine, but still the brackets should fit. You might want to find an older wiring diagram for the system and follow that. You will find the wiring about the same. Enjoy.
