What do you have the idle RPM set at? If it is set too high that could make it diesel. Anyone else??

is your dist. any good? mine did it a little, then a little more and we thought it was just my compression with cheap fuel but when we rebuilt it we found out the rotor was turning halfway around while holding the shaft still... just a guess...

also, what kind of fuel do you put in it? do you use octane boost? how much compression?

good luck!

My crate doesn't diesel, though its close to the edge. Check your timing carefully, indexing the timing mark on the damper. I did change the thermostat to 175 degrees, and put in a flex fan to keep things really cool. Red Line water wetter helps too.

also, I can get a smooth idle at 750 rpm, so your idle tuning must be way off.

just a thought..that 12 initial should be ok, but if it isnt for your setup, you can adjust it or replace it for one with more spread . Why arent you using the vac advance? I use it connected to the manifold port, smooths idle nicely....( I know, lots of arguments about this, but the vac has NOthing to do with performance..)

Yeah 1000 rpm sounds a little too high. If it's running too rough below 1000 it could be a vacum leak. It should idle around 750 unless you have a way radical cam.
