Help Driving question......

Anybody here with with 4.10 or higher gears ever take their car on long trips? I'd like to drive my RR down to Chryslers at Carlisle sometime(aprox. 100 miles) to show it. I have 4.10 gears with 30" tires (175/60/15's). Does anybody forsee any problems doing this? I don't want to trailer it. Also does anyone know what size speedo gear I need for above gear and tire size? Thanks in advance, later shawn

I'm not sure about the speedometer gear, I think about 40-teeth?

4.10:1 gears with 30" tires should not be too bad for only a 100 mile trip. I guess it depends on how loud the exhaust is and if the car has any drivetrain vibration.

i have 4.10's and 26" tires...i have taken my car to Olathe, Kansas (about 700 miles from here...across state) it ran about 4000 rpm doing around 70, and the very often 6000 of passing somebody.... as long as it is strong, and doesn't overheat then i don't see any problem. (like 451Mopar said...strong=no vibrations or whatever)

good luck

BTW: when i did this, before we left the alt. locked up, so we put a new one on, and then put on a new belt...well, we were in a rush and the stabilizer bolt (bolt going into head holding it on) broke....bounced off the belt, went through the fan (flex fan, no clutch running at 4000 rpm) and then through the radiator....

check things over before going on the trip! we learned the hard way, and used a lot of bars-leak!!

just watch your speed, keep it down to about 3500 and you will be ok. oh yes, make sure you check all your bolts!

Thank's guy's. The person who built my engine said not to run it at 3000 rpm for long durations. I don't know why he said that cause thats usually where it's running at. later shawn

Default 410`s

All that has been said could be seen in adifferent light if you run a stall higher then2500-2800 . just some thing to think about.

if thats where your engine is running, that is more slip and more heat....thats why i haven't gone any further than 10 miles w/mine...around 3200-3800...

I have 4.10's with 255/15/60's on the car now. I cruise around 3000 rpm's for only about 45min's -1 hour lengeths. For you I would say to use a tranny cooler to be safe.
You should be able to drive the Hwy. just fine. Keep the rpm's variable till you feel safe. I really see no reason unless it's brand spanken new.

I have a tranny cooler rated for 22,000-24,000 GVW on it now. My temp rarely goes above 160 degree's. 1972roadrunner I'm a little confused first you said you drove yours for 700 miles then you said you don't drive it more then 10 miles. I don't understand? I really need some sound advice cause if I damage this motor I won't be able to get it fixed for a long while. later shawn

when we drove it 700 miles, it was before we rebuilt the motor (bout 4 years) and it had the stock converter...not much of a stall.... now we have the TCI streetfighter...higher stall than stock...in the area of 3200-3800 rpm (depends on how i'm feeling that day...)
