Thumbs up

Alright I am looking at buying a 69 dodge dart two door with a slant six 225. It has leak in the oil line and a cracked gasket but all new braking and new master cylinder, alternator , the body has a few small dents but other than that is in fair condition. It is going to cost me around 1,500 to buy it. So is that a good deal for a classic beauty like it is?

Second I have thought about either puttin new manifold, headers, 2 barel carb, or going to a bigger small block like a 318 what should i do?
Rember I am at a low budget and am only 17!

Rob,

What oil line is leaking, I assume you mean one of the transmission cooler lines? If thats what's leaking then it wouldn't be to hard to fix. Could it be leaking trans fluid around one of the fittings where the line goes into either the transmission or cooler?

As far as the bad gasket, what gasket are you refering to? If it's the head gasket then your in for some work.

$1500 is a little steep in my book for a 69' slant 6 Dart. If it has really low miles then I might consider it.

From what you describe about the car it's probably worth around $900 especially if it has high mileage, over 100,000. It would be worth even less if it has lots of rust.

Installing a small V8 would do the car wonders. Skip the 318 and go with a 360. Lots of older mopars came with 360s so one shouldn't be to hard to find. Of course if you go for the engine swap you will either have to change the K member or go with one of the kits sold by Schumacher Creative Services, 206-364-7151 to do the swap. These kits allow you to swap in a V8 without changing the K member.

As far as modifing on the slant 6. There's not a whole lot of performance parts out there. Mopar Performance Parts sells HP parts for the slant 6 and Clifford Performance Parts in Corona, CA, 909-734-3310 offers a few parts.

I would say if the car is not a rusted out roach and does not burn oil severely, go for it! A 69 Dart is the kind of car you will never forget having owned. My first car was a 75 Trail Duster. I have more than $1500 in it and I am 20 now and still have it but don't run it every day. I don't think I'd sell it for $15,000. Sure there are more desireable collector cars, but you want a driver Mopar right?

Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

It's all in the eye of the beholder. If you plan on hanging onto the car and it's what YOU want than go for it. If you think you may be selling it down the line $1500 is about all it will ever be worth (and that's pushing it). If you have $1500 to spend I would probably look around a bit before running out and buying the dart. Just my advise. There are deals to be had, but you must be patient. I just acquired an AMX for $800 through our local paper. It still has the 390 Hp engine in it and I drove it home. It has lots of go-juice and doesn't smoke. Just an example that there are deals out there, but you must be patient! Good luck!!!!

I tend to agree that the asking price of 1500 is a little high if u look around a little u can fin a better car for less

Should be able to pick up one in that type of shape with a factory 318. It will be much cheaper in the long run.
