Question CAMfused

Hello I'm building an old poly 318, I've punched it out 30 over and reworked the heads going with bigger valves 2.02 and 1.60 I plan to run two 4's total about 950 cfm and plan to use the stock crank. My question is for best street/strip performance what's the best CAM I should go with? I've read about many different types and just wanted to know if anyone knows from experience whats best.

Thanks
Drdre

No personal knowledge, but I'd try the old cam grinders - Isky, Schnieder, Crane, Racer Brown... there are lots of them.

Also, bear in mind that what works pretty well for any engine should give you a good place to start with yours.

By the way - right on on polys. There will be another in my future. What's it going in??

You are going to need a lot of cam (and rpm) to match the big valves, and huge carburation on your setup with only 318 cubic inches.

You're welcome. If you search under "poly" on this forum, you'll come up with a bunch of really good stuff, I think.

Good luck!

I would contact the cam grinders directly.
I would think the poly, with the better valve train alignment could run a really agressive lobe profile? I don't know how well the heads flow, or how well the exhaust flow ratio is compared to the intake flow. Since I don't know poly engines, I don't even know what the valve angle is or about how much piston to valve clearance is avaliable in the engine.
Cam duration will still determine the operation RPM range of the engine, but valve lift, overlap and intake/exhaust pattern will depend alot on how the head flows and other factors.
