Hot August Nights

I know the Mopar Nationals is coming soon, how cool!!

I also wanted to mention the big classic car/muscle car event we have here in Reno, Nevada called Hot August Nights or H.A.N. Hopefully you can squeeze this in just before the Mopar nationals.

It will take place August 3rd thru the 10th and it is open to all 1972 and older Muscle cars. One thing first, the entry numbers are maxxed out already at 5,000 car limit, BUT, there's TONS of other shows and events that go on all day and night for the week and you do not have to be registered to participate in them.

There will also be drag racing on the friday and saturday of this event the 8th and 9th of August in Stead, Nevada 10 miles north of Reno on U.S. HWY 395 at the Stead Airport. Top Gun raceway is the track putting it on. Summit Racing is just one of the sponsors. Also, the Hurst Hemi Under Glass Plymouth Barracuda will be there like every year.

The Reno Mopar Car Club will be putting on three Mopar show-n-shines during the week. I know of two so far and their locations are "Coaches" bar and grill (Mopar Headquarters) on South Virginia St. next to the big Kragen Auto Parts store, and the second at the A&W on Kietzkie Ln. and Plumb Lane intersection in Reno. The third is to be announced. I am guessing it will be at Summit Racing Equipment but not sure yet!!

Last years attendance at the A&W Mopar show or "Mopars on the Green" was 260 cars. Very good turnout. Overall drag race attendance at Stead was around 250 cars of all makes and models.

If you need more info on this Hot August Nights please email me at: belvedere@pyramid.net

Last years overall total of cars in Reno were estimated at 12,000 cars. This is likely to be the same or more. SO MUCH FUN!!

Also there will be crusies, swap meets, burnout contests in designated areas etc. Popular hangouts for cars to go:

Atlantis Casino, Hilton Hotel and casino, Victorian Square, The Peppermill Hotel and casino, Boomtown, The Bonanza Casino, The Silver Legacy, The Eldorado, A&W, Scoopers, and popular HEAVY cruise days and nights are at Victorian Square, all of Virginia St., and downtown Reno.

See www.hotaugustnights.com for more details as well. Hope to see your Mopar here in Reno. God bless.

Scott Chevy's, Fords, and imports.

They've really killed the Hot August Nights. Back when I used to go, there were no limits on the number of cars that could go, just the age. Then again, that was also before Reno started getting pissy about cruising.

I was there 5 years ago and I was lost. There were cars everywhere, parked along the street, in parks, etc. I was kinda bummed that there was not "one" place you could see them all. It seemed that if you stayed in one place too long you would miss something, so you were constantly moving around. I know 5000 cars is alot, but when they are all over Reno, It seems like you are back in 1967 and no car is really unique anymore. I would love to go again, but I would seek out an all mopar event, becaue I see shoebox chevys and mustangs around here like I see VW Beetles, I mean every snotnosed rich kid has one, or is cruising his daddy's. Not alot of Mopes, probably cause you cant build a new one from specialty parts suppliers like Danchuk or Taiwan (mustang) Good show, too big!

I always went to be a part of the cruise. The only time that I would watch was when a few of us would pull into a parking lot to talk. The more more cars that were there, the more fun the cruise was.
