I have a 383 magnum. I wanted to know if its worth the effort to put the aluminum water pump and housing on it? However now it runs about 210-230. I put a new 180 thermostat in it, and it still runs real hot. If this doesn't work, I'm thinking of putting an aluminum radiator in it from BeCool, out of Summit. Other than losing weight, I don't know if the aluminum pump and housing will help much. Thanks.

I have the aluminum pump and housing, and I would say it's only for weight. I suggest you get yourself a good aluminum radiator instead.

Hey Dart
Which radiator would you recommend? The BeCool, or Howe? Since the car is a 70 Newport, I'll probally have to go with a universal fit. Any suggestions? Thankx [This message has been edited by rb77413 (edited November 29, 1999).] |

I have an universal griffin in my car and have nothing but good to say about it. However, in an Universal radiator there are no attachments of any kind; you have to use a little imagination to get it intact.

Did a trick I heard. Let the car heat up, well in this caes almost overheat, shut it off, and felt for cold spotas on the radiator. On the driver side bottom quarter of the radiator, I can keep my hand on it. Any where else, I'll almost burn myself. So I'm guessing that there is a partial block in the radiator. I'm gonna go hunt for an aluminum one. Hopefully this helps. It's sad when a car overheats in about 50 degrees. It will just sit at about 220-240. Thanks guys.

Why don't you take your radiator the shop and see if they can remove the blockage? Usually there is a chemical buildup that can be removed by your friendly neighborhood radiator shop.

I took the radiator to the shop. Turns out that one of the cores was completely
"pinched off" so I got lucky for me they had a core on hand so I got the radiator recored for less than buying a new one. On another note I went ahead and changed the water pump. ood thing I did because the impeler was completely disconnected from the pump itself. So I shouldn't have anymore problems with this car. At least I hope not or my wife will kill me. |
