Any other Hemi people out here?
Hey Everyone.
I was wondering if anyone else out there owns an older Hemi? This group is great, but Im looking for some people to chat with about older Hemi's. Ive never owned one before and Im interested in hearing good and bad stories, buildups ect... Anyone know of any groups dedicated to the Hemi? Thanks, Hg |

Not only am I a Hemi fan, but I'm also an AMC fan, and an Ohio fan.
There are some very knowledgable Hemi people on this forum - also, P.A.W. recently acquired a company dedicated to Hemis, so if you call them, I'd bet they can refer you to a Hemi oriented chat room or two. They mostly deal in early Hemis, though. That's what you have if I remember correctly, isn't it?? Keep your thread near the top, and the Hemi peeople on the board will eventually get back to you. |

I have one and am hoping to get three more. I'm also new to the Hemi game, but love every minute of it. Don't get me wrong, my Duster is still my favorite, but it is nice thinking about running the old Desoto down the road.

I believe I read that the 354 heads are the beest, and that they will work on a 392.

I've got a 392 hemi in my 70 Cuda, and 2 more in the garage. Also working on a 354 for my son, and a friend of mine has 3 354 hemis that I have a stake in too. You can email me at heminut392@yahoo.com .

Chrysler Hemi
I have a 331 Fire Power that I am planning to install in my 1956 Dodge pickup. The engine is a 1955 or 1956. I have been looking to find a good repair manual that includes info about the correct torque values and tolerances for this engine. It is stock so far.
Any suggestions? |

Doug, Hot Heads was bought by Bob Walker at Powerplay Hemi. PAW did buy out another company in California, but I can't remember the name off the top of my head.
Hemmi, my 392 runs great! 13.74 @ 99mph at the local track. It's just a good solid street motor, nothing fancy, in a 3600 lb. Barracuda. The track here is at 4300 ft. elev. and not prepped too well. I'm hoping to get it over to Phoenix later this summer to see what it will do on a good track at a lower elevation. These motors are big time torque motors and are great in a street car. Just don't over rev them, and they will hold up fine. I keep mine below 6000 RPM, and I've made around 25 full bore passes on the track without any problems. |

When I bought my Duster back in February, the guy offered me a 392 with a new 2X4 polished intake. For $800. I thought about it for awhile, then decided against it. Probably way too much work to put it in the Duster!

I dont know. 800 bucks was a great deal. It would have been a little work, but anything over ordinary is usually worth it. Im dropping my 354 into a prostreeted 73 Gremlin, so I imagine I will have some work, but think of the results. HG

Yeah, the "WOW" appeal of opening the hood to those big valve covers!! I use the Duster for weekend driving and have put 3000 miles on it since Feb. The thought of doing an engine swap and fabricating all that w/o a garage! Especially something that hard to get parts for. Does someone makes mounts for this swap?/

"Street Rodder" magazine did quite an extensive 392 Hemi series, back in 94 or 97 or....
I have most if not all of them still. I owned a half dozen 392/354 Hemis, dual quad engines, etc.... My best friend now owns a half dozen 392s, one has gone 9.40 in a 3000 pound car, NO BOTTLE. He's building a blown 392 Hemi Pro Street 34 Plymouth. |

Another 392 Hemi guy
My 392 is now .060+ (406 CI). Fresh total re-build, KB 8:1 CR pistons, warm hydraulic cam, shorty block hugger headers, plain chrome covers, Dyers 4-71 blower (10% over), 2X4 '58 hemi AFB's. Engine is from a '58 Imperial and was pristine before it went to the Machine shop. It was put together with Streetability as the prime concern...thus the lack of any of the usual "Performance" stuff. I made an unbelievable score on a totally COMPLETE 392 blower set-up, intake to scoop (bolt on), and couldn't pass it up. Basicly, the only "non stock" specification item on/in the engine is the cam, and it's not MUCH more than stock. The conservative estimate (Dyers, Mooneyham) with 5-8 lbs of boost @ 10%-12% overdrive on 92 pump gas is just over 500HP. I still don't have any idea what sort of car to wrap around it. Yes, there are 392 Hemi guys around...
