The question I have is this: in what year did the 440 first appear in a production Chrysler product?

I believe it is the 1966 Imperial. I have been in contact with owners of 66 Imperials who confirm this but I have others disagree & quote the Mopar performance manual as proof.

The earliest that ANY of my books show a 440 is 1967. This includes aftermarket tune0up manuals as well as the factory stuff.

The 440 was also available in the '66 New Yorker.

I believe all c bodies in 66 were avail with the 440 as well as the Imperial. I know you could get the fury with a 4 speed.

I have a 65 & 66 Imperial and both have 440 4bbls and both blocks have 1965 casting dates. At one time I had 11 440 blocks in my garage, 3 were 1965 casting dates. Hope this helps. I`ve also seen 65 Imps with 413 engines also.

Debut of the 440 was definitely 1966. I have a 66 Monaco 500 2 door htp that is an original 440 a/t car. 65 casting dates because they had to start casting in 65 for 66 model year.
