Unhappy Sqishy lifters

I know I should know better, but I want to be absolutley sure about this: I bought a set of rockershaft shims for my 360, because I had my heads milled .050". The shims come in .030, .015, and .010". So I got as close as I could with the 30 and 15. my question is: Now that I have all the shaft bolts torqued to spec, why can I colapse the hyd lifters by pushing on the pushrod side?
Is it because of no oil in the lifters?
when I prime the oil pump(and the rest of the engine), will the lifters fill up?
I have built many many engines in the past, but this is my first hi perf (Mopar) build, I have dumped a lot of $$$$ into it to have it grenade on me Grenades are bad.

The liffter should be like that becuase theres no oil in them and no they will not pump up when you prime the engine.

If you turn the crankshaft slowly while priming the oil system, the lifters will pump up.
Be sure to turn the crank two full revolutions (or more).

start it and listen for ticking...at first, it probably will, but it should go away. if its too loud, and doesn't go away, shut her down and go back through it...

this is being said from personal experience, and yes, you probably should know better! good luck Jim, have fun!

Default Maybe I'm wrong but,

I may be wrong but, if you cut your heads and your rocker arm ratio is appx.
1.5-1 shouldn't you consider that in your spacers?
If you cut your heads .050", I would think you should only space your rocker shaft .017. If you over correct you will reduce the pump up of hyd. lifters.
BTW, I have mashed stock lifter like that a lot and they always colapse.
Just thinking out loud.

Default lifters

I am with rumblefish, the lifters will be noisy at first but they will pump up with oil very quickly.Do not bother trying to pump them up before hand.

You can't do this now, but I always put them in a container with oil and push the lifter down with a push rod and let it return several times until there are no bubbles. If you do this let the outside drain for a while then wipe down the bottoms real good just before putting the break-in moly lube on them.

hey 5th....buy a DELL computer, Cable Modem, and a STRONGER cordless drill!!! either that or get a DeWalt 120 volt (not cordless...got a cord on it ) and that should probably prime your oil pump better....

OH! the DELL and Cable Modem will also make browseing this board and the rest of the net a bit faster, and give your kids more reason to sit in front of the TV!!!!! HAHAHA!!!!!

I don't think your helping alot here. That's the first response from 5th that is....well...not of the norm.
Perhaps your love affair with Dell should be taking to the next level and get paid for it. Not harass.
