Hello all I have a 58 392 out of an Imperial
and it is bone stock internally - rings, bearings, etc. After a rebuild this motor is going in a 65 Coronet 440 and will be used 99% of the time on the street. So it being a Hemi - with all the visual appeal of a Hemi - it needs to have a better sound than a stock 58 Imperial. It will have headers into a dual exhaust system. Can anyone provide suggestions on the cam as far as recommended specs for a street motor?

Don, I just built a 392 hemi which I'm dropping into my 70 Cuda (hopefully this week). The cam I put in it is from PAW (they had about the best prices I could find on early hemi cams). Specs are; .480 lift, 300 deg. adv. duration, 230 deg. at .050. I'll be glad to let you know how it works when I get it going. Going to be running it on the street with a TF727 and 3500 stall converter. BTW, what are you planing to use for headers? The only full length ones made that I know of are Hot Heads Research, and they won't work in any A,B or E body with stock steering, they run right into the steering linkage. I ended up using the shorties from PAW (they are made by Hedman) and still had to modify them to make them work. Also, power steering is out! Even with stock exhaust manifolds there isn't room for it. If you wan't, you can e-mail me at l_srader@hotmail.com and I will get with you on the mods I had to do to get the 392 to work in the later cars. I originaly fitted it up to a 68 Coronet engine bay, then switched to the Cuda when I got a good deal on it.
