MY SON BOUGHT A 1966 CHARGER WITH A 383 4 BARREL. HE HAS THE ORIGINAL ENGINE, IN PIECES IN THE GARAGE AND A '69 383 .060 OVERBORE AND 12TO 1 PISTIONS IN IT NOW. MY QUETION IS HOW DO WE DECODE THE NUMBERS ON THE BLOCK AND MAKE SURE IT IS THE ORIGINAL? WE'VE GOTTEN SOME NUMBERS OFF THE NET AND FROM MOPAR MAGAZINES AND AM FAIRLY CERTAIN IT IS THE ONE. JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE. HE'S SAVING UP MONEY TO HAVE IT CHECKED TO SEE IF IT CAN BE REBUILT. THANKS, PROUD DAD.

A '66 383 should have a casting #of 2468130 on the block. The engine sequence number is usually on the right side of the block , just above the oil pan. The last 6 digits of this number should match the last 6 digits of the vin #. I know this applies to '68 and later engines, not sure about the earlier ones.
