Default Rear-End Swap

Does anyone know if a 8 3/4 rear-end from a '72 Imperial would fit intop a '77 New Yorker? Or what the measure ments are? Also, what would you guyts recomend for gears in the New Yorker? It's all basically stock with minumal engine mods.
Thanks a lot!
Steve

I loaned my book to someone, but the measurments are in the MOPAR Chassis manual. I think it would work. Does the Imp. have rear disks? I don't think so, but I'm not sure.

that's what i was thinking because they are both "C" bodies, but i wanted to make sure. Thanks guys.
Now, what would you recomend for gears?? I'm not worried about highway speeds, it'll be mainly below 55mph if i go anywhere within 15 miles anyway.
Thanks a Lot!

werent the Imperials a 5 on 5 bolt pattern? The rear end width I beleive changed in 69. I swapped a 68 8 3/4 into a 77 Newport. I had to relocated the spring pads, and get a flexible rear brake line from a Van. The location on the 8 3/4 stretched the line too much. The Van had more than enough slack. The 68 rear was also shorter. The rear tires were closer to the springs. Would be cool for dished wheels. They dont last the Imp specifically or years either but:

8 1/4 B-Body --- 62.00 --- 57.80 --- 47.30
8 1/4 B & C --- 63.4 --- 59.2 --- 47.30
9 1/4 B-Body --- 62.00 --- 57.80 --- 47.30
9 1/4 B & C --- 63.4 --- 59.2 --- 47.30

Damn the cloumns go std track- flange 2 flange- and spring center 2 center

It has the 2.76's in it. powered by a 64 413 that locked up Quite fast while it ran. I also ran Cop wheels in the back. It was a 4 door hardtop. I really miss driving that car.
