Help i need carb info...

i am planning on instaling a 360 magnum out of what i believe was a 1978 dodge truck. i need to buy a carb for it and realized i know nothing about carbs. all i know is it needs about a 650 cfm. do i need vaccum secondaries or do i need electric choke or do i need.....
i am putting it into a 1972 dodge charger that originally had a 318 in it. it had the 2 barrel carb on the 318 if that helps. thanks

You will need a 650 Vac.Sec. manual choke. If the weather gets cold then hook up a choke cable to it. I live in Canada and don't have a choke hooked up to any of my carbs. I've only used Holley carbs, the 650, 750, and the 850. One thing I noticed with them is you need to tune them quite often.
You will have to take notice of your linkage that hooks to the carb. You are going from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel. The linkage is different, as well as the intake. If your new intake stands taller than the previous intake, your linkage will not line up and will have to be played with (or get a complete linkage set-up from a 4 barrel car). If this is out of your capabilities, get someone who knows what they are doing cause its worth the $ rather than the headaches that come from linkage set up mistakes.

Yep... but I'd use a 600 or 625 cfm Carter or Edelbrock. It's a matter of preference.

I agree with Doug on the carb choice for your engine. The Edelbrock 600cfm with electric choke is jetted a little leaner in the primaries than the manual version or Carter 625cfm so if your motor is stock or close to stock it may work best. These carbs are pretty easy to tune on stock or mild motors. The Edelbrock website has all the info you need and it works for the Carter carbs also. The Carter 625 was recommended to me for my built 340 since I just use it on the street. Even with a fair size cam it was easy to tune and runs great. The Holley is also a good carb but you may need more expertise in tuning it. You will probably need a different throttle cable for your setup. Maybe someone else can help with an answer. Good Luck!
