Default Poly 318 question

1. What to set the timing at?
2. What is the firing order?
3. Is the #1 piston left front(drivers side)
I'm going to crank this poly 318 in a 65 fury sometime next week, just want to get all my ducks in a row. Just finished assembly.

Thanks
Russ

base timing in the shop manual is 10deg.before
fireing order is the same as any small block chrysler18436572
left bank (drive side) 1357 right bank (pass. side) 2468

just got the coronet on the road, my timing is at 14 deg. but i also changed the cam grind, compression 10:1, went to a 4bbl.

very happy with it. i hope you have the same luck.

vacume advance needs to be hooked to a port vac. source. one of the problems i had when i hooked it man. vac. advance all the time, no good.

Default long story short

I got the car 4 months ago it ran but smoked bad after about 10minutes, pulled the engine to do a quick rebuild and ridge remmed it a little to much so the machine shop had to take it .40over, rather than that its all stock, but all new cam, lifters, pushrods, oilpump, watar pump, gears, heads redone that wasn't cheap!!! original 2bbl. Hope I got every thing together proper first time I've this deep in a engine. Should have it running by the middle of next week, I hope I don't have to use a fie ext. but I'll have one handy thanks.

Default Poly rebuild

Russell: Nice going on the Poly. You will enjoy that motor as it has great potential and has nine lives.
Let me know if I can help you with any performance mods.
Presently at a modest 405HP/442 Torque on my Poly 318 stroker but should get to the right number after I fix a couple glitches.

Take care,
Gary Pavlovich

Great! My son has a '63 Polara 4door with the poly. He just acquired a cast iron 4bbl intake for it so I am sure we will have some questions once he talks me into starting that project.

Good luck to you, Russell, on your project.

Gary,

The board won't forward notes or provide email addresses for members anymore. You need to give him your address on the forum.

Russell - did you get the engine dropped in?

What is your buget for upgrades?

What carb did you put on that iron manifold?

Al Jam: You and anyone else can reach me at the following,
glpavlovich@cox.net

By the way, in your user profile, all members of this list can elect to have their e-mail address accessible that list members may contact them.
The "private" messaging has been disabled by the list master but e-mail access is still up to the list member.

Take care (and thank you for the adulation Doug),

Well Gary, that used to be true. The selection in user preferences is still there, but it no longer works. For example, I just tried to send you an email from the user profile screen, it says you have specified you do not wish to receive emails through the list.

Just to be sure, I went to my own profile. I have allowed email messages according to my profile, but I get the same dumb message when I try to email myself. That's really too bad, because I haven't talked to myself in quite a while, and I'd really like to know what I'm up to these days.

Seriously, I don't know why that feature has been disabled. It doesn't reveal the email address to the sender, I know because I used to use the feature and it sends the email "blind". If the recipient wants to respond they can, otherwise they can ignore it. So, moderators, why have you done this to us?

The email and PM features were disabled because they were being abused. Certain members were using those features for personal attacks. The admin disabled those features at that time and will probably never re-enable those features, to prevent further abuse of that nature.

Thanks for the reply. Why can't you guys just throw the offenders off the board?? It's been done by others, and I think if you took a pole, you'd find that the majority of us would really like the features reinstated
- even at the risk of someone calling us a nasty name.

Just a thought.

Ed, I really think that's a bad idea. Now you have people posting their private email addresses in a public forum. This is NOT GOOD!! At least with the private email function, the sender never saw the real email address. If the recipient chose to respond, then fine, if not fine also. It was up to them. And if someone was being attacked, they could still disable the blocking feature just for themselves in their personal profile. Or better, set a filter on their email client to block the offender. Now you are punishing all of us for the unsocial acts of one person? That really sucks!

I had nothing to do with the original decision, however I respect the decision of the admin to do this. I really wouldn't consider this to be a punishment, but more as a protection. Out of the 17,000 + members, I have only seen 10 members who are complaining about not having this feature. In the past two weeks, I have seen at least 10 members that would abuse this feature.

OK ED, I appreciate the comment about abusing type people. If you have noticed, those same ones are abusing the entire board, and making it so I don't want my 12 year old daughter to read the forum. I think you all should just boot them off, and let the rest of us talk to each other without having to publish our email addresses to the entire forum.

Guess I agree with 72Challenger.

But... I respect the decision.

The first 318s were in '57... and they have been with us ever since!!

No other engine has lasted so long.
