Is it possible to install power windows in a 70 Charger that origanally didn't come with power windows? Is there a kit you can buy, or do I need to find original parts? Thanks for any help,

Yes to both. There are aftermarket kits and you can find a donor B-body and get the stuff from that car.

Thanks for the info. Chris. Do you know where I can get an aftermarket kit? And how hard are they to install? I'm really looking for a kit that will do all four windows if this is at all possible.

To be honest,I'd look in the truck magazines such as "Truckin".Those and the import magazines have plenty of ads for these conversions.

Shadetree Mechanics had an episode about installing power windows on a *chevy* streetrod. They used a product between the door and the door pillar that used pins to connect the switches to the car instead of wires. When the door is closed the pins touch their matching part on the door and makes the circuit. It's worth thinking about if you want to keep the body looking close to factory
Here's a link to this episode, and also one for the company that made that contact unit: http://www.shadetreemechanic.com/previouseps/st8_17.shtml http://www.widecontact.com/ For the motors goto a junk yard and look at the power window assemblies in M-body Fifth Avenues or loaded Diplomats. There's a good chance these parts will work with your windows or be modified slightly to work and the parts would be cheaper aswell. The motors the Fifth Avenues use for their windows are VERY similar to those used in a lot of older Mopars. Hope this helps, [This message has been edited by 5thAve (edited March 02, 2000).] [This message has been edited by 5thAve (edited March 02, 2000).] |

If you are only wanting to power the front windows, any of the late 70's cordobas would be good donors as well. If you want the quarter windows on power another factory appearing route would be to find a 69-74 C-body. Most will have the power windows and should be an exact match. You should even be able to use the same wiring harnesses. There are many ways to go but IMO the vintage look is the cleanest.

Thanks for the replies! The W.I.D.E. connectors look like an interesting idea. I will be attempting to do this project this summer along with an entire dash wiring harness kit (thats going to be fun!). Good luck with all your projects,
