Default Rear yoke question

I have a '73 Challenger with a 4 speed. I'm going to put a 408 stroker motor in soon and I'm about to replace the drive line. Do you know if the yoke on my 8 3/4 489 rear will hold up to the power of the stroker?

Cool 408 stroker motor?

Unless you are planning more for your motor than a HOT 440 you should not have any problems.

I have not been able to keep a yoke or a 7290 u-joint in my challenger. I have a pretty hot 340 with a 4 speed, 2-6 runs and she breaks, my pinion angle is perfect so I know thats not the problem, now I know my caltracs hit very hard and thats why I keep breaking them, I'm going to a 1350 series yoke for the shear strength. Any 4 speed car with over 400 horse, a set of slicks and a hard hitting suspension will break u-joints and wreck yokes, take it from me do it right the first time so you don't go to the track and break it using parts that were rated for something that had 300 horse with an auto. 4 speeds are hard on parts unless you have the right parts to back it up.

Stoker....

Take Challengers Advice...

1350 harded alloy yoke...

Evenwith the 1350 joint (in my opinion) that's still the weekest link (assuming the rest of your set up is correct).

Frankly I like the u joint being the weak link... (it's like putting a fuse in your power train) It's the first to pop and it's also the cheapest to replace.

Oh - for safety reasons run a DL loop as well...

FYI Tarrababe...

408 stroker built correctly... will have more torque than a med. build 440 and it will have it sooner...

SB stokers don't have a torque curve they have a torue wall starting at Idle!!!

How do I change the rear yoke? Can I just remove the current one and put the new one on?
