Question 904 to 727 Swap?

I want to remove a 904 (999?) in favor of a 727 in a 1988 Diplomat Police car. Will the housing fit in the same space, that is my biggest concern? How about the location of the cross member and length of the drive shaft? Any other concerns?

Thanks for the help!

cross member should be OK...but the drive shaft will need to be shorten by about 3.5 inches ....

The splines are different on the trans also. You will need a different yolk for the front of the driveshaft.

The shop that shortens the shaft should be able to get you a yolk ,too.

You also need a different pivot bracket that bolts to the tranny. And while the 904 kickdown rod with the adjuster will work with a 727 it'll be bottomed out all the way, so basically you don't NEED this last part, but it's nice to have Everything else is the same, except as already mentioned the driveshaft length and yoke.

I also had to swap the kicdown arm itself from the 904 to the 727 because the 727s was in a different location all together. Depending on what the tranny is out of this may or may not be a problem.

You guys are great, thank you for the reassurance! I remembered in the old "B" bodies there wes plenty of room, but I didn't know about the later model cars.
