engine compression leak
HI!
I have changed my piston rings without boring the cylinders... now I have a leak percent of 40 I wonder: if the engine is supposed to make ,let's say 250hp, how much will the leak affect the output power??? 40%? or less? |

Has the engine been run yet?
Even on a re ring, the rings have to seat. What is your total compression? If it's down too, then you've probable scewed up something, like the compression ring end gap postions. It will greatly hurt your horsepower if this is the case. |

Leakdown tests can be deceptive. It's possible to have 100% leakdown and only lose a few percent of total power.
Remember, leakdown is a static test, the combustion is a dynamic environment. |

Gotta break it in before any numbers are valid.

leakdown
how much taper did your have? did you seperate the ring gaps? if you didn't seperate the ring gaps then it will never get any better.
