Help Trans Noise

I finally got another REAL car after about 20+ years. '70 Roadrunner w/ 383 & 4 speed. The car runs and shifts fine, but the trans is very noisey (loud whirring) when accelerateing in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gear. Its is smooth and quiet in 4th, and when decelerating in all 4 gears. Its an A833, is this normal, or do I have a problem I need to explore? Its been so long, I just dont remember what my past 4-speed Mopars sounded like. I just changed the gear oil, and it is full. I used 90w, would 140w be quieter?
Thanks

Default Not sure But

It may have been run low of lube before and scalded some bearings! This is easly done because of the hard job of checking and changing the lube. Most people dont bother untill----------ooopps its makin a noise " what could be wrong" But these trannys are very tough. Even though the bearings are kaputt! Chances are the gears wont be hurt much unless run completly dry! But just for referance there is no 4th speed gear only 1st,2nd,3rd! 4th gear is accomplished buy the input and output shaft (drive shaft) Is turning the same speed an " 1:1 ratio" Give Brewers 4 speed a call tellem whats wrong, they can help! Order if need all new bearings and syncros. But it does sound like a bearing problem!

oh yea check your release bearig (throught out bearing) and make sure every thing checks out before you go and spend time and skinned knuckles for nothing. Like the flywheel and clutch and pressure plate!

If you had straight cut gears, would it be any louder? Im an Auto man, so I may be asking a dumb question. I always wanted a 4 speed until my friend bought one that had tranny problems (clutch geometry, throwout bearing, bad pressure plate, burned flywheel, a real winner!) I said forget it.
