Help! 2bbl on 4bbl Manifold
Normally i'd ask my question on the Circle Track Board but since it is more of a general performance question I hope you don't mind if I ask it here, Any ways Im just finishing up a rebuild on a 400 for my circle track car and i had a question concerning intakes. Im limited to using a 2bbl carb and im wondering if id see any advantage by using a 74 440 4bbl intake i have laying around with a home made adaptor plate, instead of the 383 2bbl intake i have been using. I was planning on making the adaptor from 3/4" aluminum so it would also act as a spacer. My concern however is that the flow characteristics may be undesireable since the plenum area on the 4bbl manifold is so large compared to the 2bbl's will my stock 2bbl dump enough mixture in there to work properly? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated, its lonely being 1 dodge at a track with 50+ chebbies.

Charger...
The intake manifold for a 440 will not fit on the lo-deck 383/400 engine. The 413/426/440 is a raised deck engine, and uses a wider manifold. I'm assuming your talking about an adapter for the carb. Are you allowed to use an aftermarket manifold in your class? If not you might want to check into having a factory manifold modified internally. There is a process called Extrude Honing. They flow an abrasive compound through the passages to open them up. What kind of rpm will the engine see at the track? I'm guessing you built the engine for mid range power? Later, Mopar_Maniac |
