Default Performance diff between Vacum sec or mechanical??

Hi
Planning to give my tuneup 383 a new carb!!
I think a Holley 750 will do fine after asking around!
Im notplanning to buy a new carb every year ( and not my wife eighter!!)
SO................
It have to be as right as possible!!
Im doing 95% of my driving as cruising,,BUT I DO not say no if anybody want to give her a try!!
Is it ok for me to go with a Holley 750 3310 vacum secondarys or is it better with mechanical forced?
Best regards Olle B

I'm sure Rumble is working on a post as I type....

But, the right carb for you will be the one you can live with, a nice Race Demon 750 would work great but it has no choke so starting cold may be a problem for the little women.

It is recommended for 450 HP plus with a good cam and decent compression. There's a ton of details you'll need in order to choose the right carb for your application. The right way to do this would be to call my Ole buddy Scott at BG Fuel Systems 706-864-8544 and give him all the details and let his expertise make a recommendation for you.

Holley's are great carbs, and the Demons are a new and greatly improved version.

Phone calls are cheap.

Depending on your set up. If it's a light car with 3.91: gears or more, 4speed and a fast winding engine-use the Mechanical secondaries. If it's a heavier with a 355 or auto use the vaccuum secondaries. I have a Mechanical secondary on the runner and it will bog the engine,( or worse.. PING) if I open the secondaries to quick, and it loses power till the engine can windup enough to use all the throttle. I'll be changin to a 750 vacuum secondary by next year.

I am a big believer in vacuum secondaries for non-race-only cars.

Well cuda,,,,,
ive been trying to call your friend but just been hooked up on a waiting line!
Its no such big deal,,,I guess the demon is a to expensive and perhaps to exclusive too for my engine!?
I was thinking of a used or close to new carb in a pricerange below 200$ so Im afraid the demon will be a to big step for my old ladys purch!
Hope some have a point according the vac or mech................
Best regards Olle B

If you're looking at the USD200 range, look at the Carters and Edelbrocks. I like them, cause you can tune them without taking the carb off the manifold, and without getting gas everywhere.

Another approach could be a rebuild and tuned ThermoQuad from demonsizzler, if he is still around.

Anyone know his current email address?

Have a look at the VE Speed Demon, 650,750 or 850 they have the 4 corner Idle, electric choke, vacuum secondary's they really work good on engines with a duration of 240 or less @50 and with the 4 corner idle adjustment you can tune them to out perform anything else out there.

VE Speed Demon 750 CFM Cost:$375.00 plus frieght to you.

If you buy it through me I will supply you at no charge any jet combination you need at no charge, just mail back the old ones.

Check out my latest post "How To:4 Corner carbs"

The Edelbrocks are good carbs, and they are a little cheaper and easier to tune...but if want that little extra edge over the competition think long and hard about the Demons, and beside you know me and I'm the expert right .

I had a 750 CFM Carter AFB on my 383 and it works good (once I got it tuned) and it is fairly inexpensive. For a street car, some of the vacuum secondary type carbs work good. On a holley type carb I want the rear metering block so it is easy to re-jet the secondarys (this us usually on the dual feed carbs? Some Holley vacuum secondary carbs (usually the 600 cfm one) just have a small plate inside the rear fuel bowl.

My friend has a speed Demon 750 and he really likes it too, but as mentioned before it has no choke.

Thanks all........
I recived both yes and no,s but I couldnt wait.....
I was felling a little "hunted" and did the buy I was suppose to do before asking this Q!!
I need the choke since I live in a close area,, the idea of having the car running for 5 minutes every nice sunny sunday morning was not a hit for my neighbors! (I guess I spell that wrong!!)
So Ive just put my vote for a brand new Holley 750 3310 with electric choke for 160$..................
Hope I can live with that,,,
And my car IS A 727!!
And I go for 3.23,,,but I like to rew!!
Hope its doing better than my old original 4160 4369 carb,,(anyone know what size that one is?) 600?
Anyhow the car works very well and the KB pistons is much faster than original!?Also the porting and completely rebuilt with all new parts and cam will like a little bigger carb ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I hope!!

Best regards Olle B

OPK here's what they recommend and without knowing exactly what you've got It's hard to make a solid recommendation....

Under 9.5: compression and less than 240 duration@50 use the 650 VE series Speed Demon

Above that use the 750

Remember that the 650 Demon will flow the same as 750 Holley.

If you need any more help email me your phone number and they will have Scott or Jerry call you, sorry they begged me not to give out the dealer only phone number to anyone...I have to respect their wishes.

I'll also need to know when the best time (USA EST) to call you is.

Ed...kick this Swede off the board for not listening to me.....and for bad spelling which is even a bigger violation....LOL

That Holley will make you car run OK.....when you ready and finish...no not Finland..your car you'll be back...but the price just went to $399.00....LOL....good luck.

It's hard for me to say anything derogatory about Holley...as that's my Wife's name....she get's PO'ed when she walks in on 1/2 the conversation......
"...my Holley sucks...."
"...can't get this screw in my Holley...."
"...my Holley doesn't breathe all that good...cough cough"
"...I'm gonna throw my Holley out...."

You just can't be too careful when you live with a "Holley"

...But she sure likes her decals...

Olle - How the hell did you get the carb for $160 USD. If I could get them for that price, I'd be reselling them! Not using them, but reselling them.

Well,,,,,,,
i first asked around some days ago for best tip concerning a little hotter than original and still able to cruise carb!!
Also same in Sweden!!
Than looking at internet adds and a brand new never used 3310 750 with electric choke for 160$!! Thats it!!
im still not sure if its the best choise,,but you must concider I do the most of my driving at cruise speed and in highly traffic areas,,that meens a lot of redlight!!
I dont wanna spoil my original matching# engine,,but Im sure it will take a couple of runs now and then!
Ive totally rebuild it last winter and exept for using all new bearings I also use new ARP..
Also the KB .030 and new cam!!
Hope I will feel a little diff from the old carb!!
I dont say it running bad,,not at all,,but I guess the original was a 600 or 650??
That meens I couldnt rew the last 500 up to at least 6000!
Correct me if Im wrong!!

Please is there anyone who knows the exact cfm for my old original Holley 4160-4369 383 HP (R/T) carb??
Best regards olle B

Speaking of Sandra.....

Happy B'day Dear,
Haven't seen you in almost 30 years, but see...contrary to popular belief I do remember your birthday...hope your still enjoying my house...glad to hear my dog finally died. Sorry you had to sell my 55 Chevy hardtop to pay for a new roof 10 years ago...if I had of known the roof was only going to last another 20 years after you stole the house from me I would have left a kidney for you to sell and you could have kept the Fu&%&ig car.

Bit*(&^h

I sent a carton of Camels, breath deep and hold it in.

You can relax there's no race tracks in Hell.

Me, hold a grudge,,nahhhh not me....LOL
