For the early Hemi guys.....
I have a 291 in my Desoto that hasn't fired in a long time. I'm told that the point sets in the distributor have no clue if they are running 6 volt or twelve. Is this true?? How can that be?? If I do want to upgrade to twelve volts, what can I use to replace the rusted dist that turns tight now anyway??

It's not so much that they have no clue, as there is basically little difference in design between a set of points for a six or 12 volt car. As long as the condenser is in good shape, the points should have the same life as they do on a 12 volt car. I don't know of a performance distributor for a 291 DeSoto, but there may be swap possible with an A engine performance distributor. I just don't have the info handy at the moment to give exact recomendations.
But, as long as you disassemble and clean the distributor real good, and if the bushings aren't worn out with a lot of shaft play, it'll work until you can find a performance distributor for your 291. |

Check with Bob Walker at www.powerplayhemi.com to find out what distributor options are available for your hemi. If Bob doesn't have it, it ain't available for an early hemi!
