Out of about 6 1970-71 E-bodies I have looked at at least 3-4 had horizontal hairline cracks on the A-pillars right where the pillar meets the roof. Bad welds? Bad Resto? Should I worry about it?

I'd bet it's just cracks in the lead used to cover the factory seam where the pillar meets the roof. Years of stress and flexing have probably just taken their toll. If there's no rust or bubbling of the paint around it, it should be an easy fix. To be sure, check out the cars a little closer. See if the doors open/ close easily (could be hinges or the body is "tweaked") look at the body lines and gaps between the fenders, doors, quarters, hood, etc- should be pretty consistent all the way around.
