Default comp cam and torkerII on my 340...do you think its a good combo??

hey all... just wondering what you thought of my cam/intake combo... do you think its matched OK?? it ran very strong with a bigger cam than i'm going to put in it, but the new cam is mechanical instead of hyd.

ok, i have an aluminum edelbrok TorkerII high-rise single plane and:
Code:
Comp Cams Magnum Cam
Grind: 282S
RPM Range: 3,000 - 6,000
Part No.: 20-247-4
Adv. Dur.: 282-282
Dur. @ .050: 236-236
Valve Lift: .495-.495
Lobe Sep. Angle: 110
Cam Price: 124.95
Lifters: 821-16 (we ordered)
what do you think? i'm going to put my holley 650 double pumper back on top, pretty much cause we're too lazy to deal with the carb brackets and NOS brackets etc.... plus, dad thinks its got enuff carb. i wouldn't mind going bigger due to high comp. but it doesn't ping, and of course, dad knows best . we've also got J heads w/2.02 int. and 1.60 exh., dual springs, MP adjustable aluminum 1.6 roller rockers, forged 12.5:1 cr pistons (thats not true compression, just what the tag on the boxes said...)

thanx for all suggestions, opinions, and NICE comments... i could care less for the rude ones but i'll just ignore those. i also love your jokes, and don't really mind being teased!! i usually get a lot of laughs from this board compared to others dealing with different subjects... i've also tried another Mopar board, but this one is better!!

I think most of your parts and mods are wasted with that cam. I would suggest a lot hotter, dual pattern cam from, probably Hughes. Also, no need to goof around with solids when anti pump ups will take you to (at least) 6500.

I don't think much of single pattern cams.

Do you have any work (Porting) done on the heads? If not, a dual pattern would work better to help with the lack of exhaust flow. Thats why there made that way.
The cams rated performance should fit right in with the intake and carb cfm.
Whats the dur. @ .050 of the Hyd. cam?

rumble: the duration @.050 is 243 on the hyd. cam. theres has been LITTLE porting to the heads, only what was needed to clean everything up... dad didn't have the machine shop do it cause it would cost too much in labor, and we'd do it, but dads off in another town an hour away working, and when my mom gets home i can't drive her phurd... i doubt my brother would let me take his car to work till i get mine done... maybe for a week, who knows...

dad is thinkin about selling the hyd. cam... heres the specs on it:

Code:
SSI Performance Camshaft
Part No: 10358 (P.A.W)
Perf. Range: 4
Dur. @ .050: 243-243
Adv. Dur: 298-298
Gross Lift: .508-.508
Deg. Lobe Cen: 108
Valve Lash - Hot: HYD
Cam Price: $49.95
i'm not sure how much dad would knock off the price...there is a little wear, the bearing surfaces are in good shape, the lobes look good...

my dad is pretty much the "big kahuna" when it comes to ordering parts and what we do to my roadrunner, pretty much cause its his credit card, and i have to pay the car off...

I think the guys are right. You need a better (bigger) can for your combo! Also I would toss the Torker 2 Intake! In a recent magazine the Performer RPM made more power on top and bottom end in a hot race engine, probably due to the swept runners! More like a Victor series intake. (old Trantula) Would be better and more duel pattern with more dur maybe like above 240 @ .050 lift!

Hope I could help! Good luck!

yeah, a little more duration would probably be a little better, but this is all we could find to our liking...

also, we WOULD HAVE gone bigger, but we thought that's what our problem was...we are running stock J heads, no porting, and the only thing that has been changed on them is dual springs have been put on...thats it...

the motor is also very strong, i like the torkerII mainly cause its a single plane...it came with the motor and it seems to work... dad really frowns on using a dual plane intake on anything....even if it is an edelbrok performer...

when the motor is put back into the car, i'll let everyone know how it runs, if it's stronger than before or what... thanx for all the suggestions/opinions/advice/comments/whatever else i forgot!!

since the heads are close to stock, the cam you listed earlier will do well. You'll have a little less horse power due to a smaller duration. However, you'll gain torque.

6 packin makes a good point on intakes. However, since it came with the car, use it. It is also a decent intake for those "On a budget.' They can be had at a good price at swap meets.
