Question

A friend had a cherry "Super Commando" with a 4 spd and 440 Motor. I have a pic of the VIN plate and a few or the car. Very, very quick ride, I'm sure. Lopey, lopey, but very sweet sounding with a few revs...

If you don't know how many, but know a place to find out, I'd appreciate the info and see it gets passed on to him (he isn't on the net).

thanks,

BobC

Question

Any possiblity that anyone knows how many 4 spd / 440 of these were built? My friend was saying that someone told him none, but yet the numbers match.

I wonder if Chrysler has a Historical Services outfit that would know?

My book on cars says less than 2 percent of all plymouths for 68 were made with 4 speeds. I don't know how you would get the numbers from it. Wether you could just take 2 percent of the numbers for furys would work or not.

I have a 1968 Plymouth Fury lll, 2dr fasttop with the factory 383/330hp engine. It has the factory 4spd transmission with 3.23 sure-grip axle. My car was a "late" build car, built in April of 68', so it came with the factory Hurst shifter and dash mounted reverse light.
Chrysler doesn't have exact production numbers on Fury's for some reason. I've called them about it a couple of times.
I have a book titled "Chrysler Corporation Production Option Code Book" it is marked as the "Third Printing" June 1993.
It states:
PH23 Sport Fury 2dr hdtp 3881 Total
PS23 Sport Fury 2dr fsbk 16754 Total
PH27 Sport Fury convertible 2111 Total
They have no engine/tranny break-down.

The only referance I have ever seen on 4spd C-body car's stated the same as an earlier posting.
Less than 2% of ALL Fury's were built with 4spds.

Later,
Jeff C.
