Default Water temp sensor

I'm adding a mechanical water temperature sensor and want to hear of your suggestions for getting the dang set screw/plug out of the water pump.

I have a 69 RR 383. The set screw/plug has a square 3/8" (or maybe just a hair more) inset. The plug is in there tight. I've banged on it with a punch; I used a 3/8 inch adaptor with my 1/2 inch impact wrench (and broke three adaptors). My 3 foot breaker bar just breaks the adaptors.

How can I remove this plug so I can insert my mechanical temperature sensor?

Thanks,

Terry

Im not a pessimist but It aint gonna give, believe me Ive been there 20 times, best bet is get another w/p housing and see if itll break loose and try some heat if you have to but unbolt the w/p so you dont cook the seal,my experience has been some give and some dont, personally Id run an electric gauge its much less of a hassle because the sender goes in the stock location.....PRO....

in the pump?? aren't those supposed to go in the intake right next to the thermostat housing? thats where the sensor for my mechanical guage is hooked up...course, i don't know 383's, but surely they are close to the same...

good luck...

Default oh no

72 if you do that on a big block you will only mesuser air temp.
as there is no water in a big block intake.
Remove the pump houseing from the block.
then remove the pump. put the houseing in a vise add heat around the plug evenly .
remember heat the houseing not the plug as it will make the 3/8 squar soft .
then try a4th adapter and impact.
this works for me . hope it helps
